Tolerable Ed Wood, Jr.-Lugosi vehicle. A mad scientist fights to create a race of supermen. Released in 1956 and also starring Tor Johnson, (the big, fat, bald zombie in "Plan 9 from Outer Space").
Scream of Fear 11"x17" Framed PosterScream of Fear 11"x17" Framed Poster

This film IS available on DVD from Amazon -- I just can't get it to come up HERE for some stupid reason! Anyway, this is a worthy (British) Hammer Films entry that few have heard about.
Devil DollDevil Doll

What a rotten and evil little doll!
And Now the Screaming Starts! And Now the Screaming Starts!

Curse of the Demon / Night of the DemonCurse of the Demon / Night of the Demon
Buy new: $21.49 / Used from: $14.97
This recommendation is for "Curse of the Demon," a pretty scary black-and-white horror film-noir. An anthropologist investigates a devil worshipper who commands a deadly demon. A really dandy and nasty monster here!
The HauntingThe Haunting
Buy new: $11.49 / Used from: $3.84
A very well-made and high quality 1963 black-and-white haunted house/psychological thriller entry. It's in letterbox format, 112 minutes.
The Mummy (Universal Studios Classic Monster Collection)The Mummy (Universal Studios Classic Monster Collection)
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $6.45
A bulwark among the older black-and-white horror films! Hell, it's KARLOFF!
Die, Monster, Die!Die, Monster, Die!
Buy used from: $2.78
A fantastic color entry from American International Pictures (AIP), 1965, starring Boris Karloff. A young man travels to his fiance's mansion, only to find that his prospective wife's family is reviled -- just wait 'till you find out why! Don't miss this one. (a.k.a "House at the End of the World," and, a.k.a "Monster of Terror")
The Pit and the PendulumThe Pit and the Pendulum
Buy used from: $1.99
Wonderful conversion from Poe poem to a coherent and well-done horror film story. Great color too as we have come to expect from Hammer Films (England).
Isle of the Dead / BedlamIsle of the Dead / Bedlam
Buy used from: $5.75
This recommendation is for "Isle of the Dead," a black-and-white, 1945 Boris Karloff film of note: SOMEONE here is a Vampire! Alan Napier co-stars. The movie "Bedlam," also on this DVD, is not so much a horror film and is fairly boring, all about a nut house.
King of the ZombiesKing of the Zombies
Buy new: $7.98 / Used from: $3.37
Mantan Moreland makes this black-and-white treasure all worthwhile. A mad scientist is raising the dead to fight for Hitler during World War II. A 1941 movie.

Yet another Nazi scientist tries to raise an army of the dead to fight for Hitler. Black-and-white, starring the great John Carradine AND Mantan Moreland. 1943.

A family inherits a house haunted by 13 ghosts and a living killer. A real sleeper, starring Martin Milner. (black-and-white).
Crucible of HorrorCrucible of Horror
Buy used from: $11.95
When you kill off the old man, he'll come back and haunt you for certain! This film was made in either 1969 or 1971 -- I remain unsure on that issue due to conflicting information. Don't confuse this movie with "Crucible of Terror," which is not a very good film.
Them! (Snap Case)Them! (Snap Case)

Giant atomically-mutated ants attack! Black-and-white, 1954, also starring Fess Parker. This is a GOOD one, folks!
Devil BatDevil Bat

The Classic Sci-Fi Ultimate Collection: Volume 2 (The Deadly Mantis / Dr. Cyclops / Cult of the Cobra / The Land Unknown / The Leech Woman)The Classic Sci-Fi Ultimate Collection: Volume 2 (The Deadly Mantis / Dr. Cyclops / Cult of the Cobra / The Land Unknown / The Leech Woman)
Buy used from: $28.83
This recommendation is specifically for "Dr. Cyclops," a 1940 black-and-white film that I really love. A brilliant physicist in the Peruvian jungle discovers how to atomically shrink his enemies... and proceeds to do so! Great sets and locations. The special effects are excellent.
The Little Shop of HorrorsThe Little Shop of Horrors
Buy used from: $2.16
Classic tongue-in-cheek horror film about a loser who develops a bloodthirsty plant and is forced to murder in order to feed it. Directed by Roger Corman, the film was the basis for the later hit stage musical. This film scared the crap out of me when I was a kid. Black-and-white, 1960.
House of WaxHouse of Wax
Buy new: $12.49 / Used from: $4.38
One of the very best Vincent Price films of all time, shot in Warnercolor. A scarred sculptor re-populates his ravaged wax museum with human corpses. 1953.
Earth vs. the Flying Saucers (Color Special Edition)Earth vs. the Flying Saucers (Color Special Edition)
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $17.50
Space invaders attack the nation's capital. This is sort of an early version of "War of the Worlds," but more fun and not so serious. The defenders use really cool ray guns, mounted on truck beds, to shoot down the flying saucers! Black-and-white, 1956.
Mysterious Island (Widescreen)Mysterious Island (Widescreen)
Buy new: $8.49 / Used from: $4.75
A super color film, well-done. Escaped Civil War POWs end up on an island populated by giant animals. 1961. You won't find many better than this one.
The BlobThe Blob
Buy used from: $19.20
Great early Steve McQueen entry (1958) -- lots of teen shenanigans. A misunderstood teen fights to save his town from a gelatinous monster from outer space.
The Day of the TriffidsThe Day of the Triffids
Buy used from: $777.12
Extremely well-done, shot in Eastmancolor, 1963. A shower of meteorites produces a glow that blinds anyone that looks at it. As it was such a beautiful sight, most people were watching and 99% of the population go blind. The Triffids, experimental plants which can move around, go on the attack.
The Valley of GwangiThe Valley of Gwangi
Buy new: $19.49 / Used from: $9.29
Sort of a goofy western-dinosaur movie, shot in 1969, but great scenery and special effects. Cowboy James Franciscus sees fame and fortune by capturing a Tyrannosaurus Rex living in the Forbidden Valley and putting it in a Mexican circus. His victim, called the Gwangi, turns out to have an aversion to be shown in public.
The Invisible ManThe Invisible Man
Buy new: $14.98 / Used from: $8.04
Shot in 1933 with Claude Rains and E.E. Clive. A superb old black-and-white horror flick which I have watched again and again. A scientist's experiments with invisibility turn him into a madman.
The Lost ContinentThe Lost Continent
Buy used from: $18.89
A cast of unpleasant characters, all with horrible secrets, take a chartered cargo ship to escape their troubles. Unfortunately, the leaky ship is carrying an explosive that can be set off by sea water and it sinks, stranding many characters in a Sargasso Sea -- man-eating seaweed, giant crabs and turtles, and violent Spanish conquistadors. 1968.
MansterManster
Buy new: $7.98 / Used from: $1.83
This fine black-and-white 1961 film has seen more showings on TV over the past few years. A mad scientist turns a reporter into a two-headed killer.
The Omega ManThe Omega Man
Buy used from: $4.99
Charlton Heston was VERY cool in this excellent 1971 color production. Doctor Robert Neville is the only survivor of an apocalyptic war, with the exception of a few hundred deformed, nocturnal homicidal maniacs. They blame science for their condition -- Neville becomes their target. He attempts survival as he searches for a cure.
Satan Bug [VHS]Satan Bug [VHS]
Buy used from: $19.94
This one hasn't made it on to DVD yet (notice that this selection is VHS tape) but it's a great film, bulging with big stars including Edward Asner, Richart Basehart, Anne Francis, George Maharis, and Dana Andrews! A mad millionaire bribes a scientist to steal a deadly virus. Released in 1965.
Andromeda Strain [VHS]Andromeda Strain [VHS]
Buy used from: $2.02
Top quality 1971 film shot in Technicolor. Scientists race to find the cure for a deadly space virus. Great casting, 131 minutes.
Arsenic and Old LaceArsenic and Old Lace
Buy new: $17.49 / Used from: $8.50
Watch out for colorized versions of this film -- the pastel hues are pretty garish and awful. This is a tongue-in-cheek romp about a rich fiance (Carey Grant) with two ancient old maid aunts, living in a mansion, who covertly poison lonely old men to put them out of their "misery". Raymond Massey and Peter Lorre are awesome in this 1944 treasure.
Star Trek - The Original Series, Vol. 8, Episode 16: The Menagerie, Parts I and IIStar Trek - The Original Series, Vol. 8, Episode 16: The Menagerie, Parts I and II
Buy used from: $23.29
As good as a regular Star Trek movie. This double episode was devised from the pilot film and we get to meet the first Captain of the [original] Enterprise, Captain Pike (Jeffrey Hunter). Great stuff!

Buy new: $20.49 / Used from: $11.53
This recommendation is for "Frankenstein," the 1931 original black-and-white film (first one with sound) starring Colin Clive and Boris Karloff. Still a great film.
Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man / House of FrankensteinFrankenstein Meets the Wolf Man / House of Frankenstein
Buy new: $14.98 / Used from: $4.99
This recommendation is for "Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman," black-and-white, 1943. Stars include Lionel Atwill, Dennis Hoey, Bela Lugosi, and Lon Chaney, Jr. Not as tongue-in-cheeck as you might think -- a great movie!
Godzilla King of the MonstersGodzilla King of the Monsters
Buy used from: $1.51
Here we have the 1956 original black-and white Japanese film treasure starring Raymond Burr. An American reporter (Raymond Burr) investigates a series of mysterious disasters off the coast of Japan -- he encounters an ancient creature so so terrifying that it reduces Tokyo to a smoldering graveyard.
Mr. Sardonicus [VHS]Mr. Sardonicus [VHS]
I love this 1961 black-and-white film (on VHS only so far)! A greedy baron unearths his father's corpse to retrieve a lottery ticket. The reward costs him: his face is frozen permanently into a hideous grin. A fiendish servant trys to lift the curse but the schemes fails. Sardonicus turns to a noted neurosurgeon, (his wife's former lover), to cure him.
Spider Baby (Directors cut)Spider Baby (Directors cut)
Buy new: $15.99 / Used from: $9.54
This one is really out there but a superb film! Three inbred teens, along with Lon Chaney, Jr., exist in a decrepit old rural mansion -- until a sleazy lawyer and relatives pay a visit to liquidate their property. Black-and-white, 1968. Mantan Moreland kicks this one off.
