Wow, this book is just wonderful. So much useful information about how to think about painting and being an artist. I really like the humour too. Great info on how to use different edges to create illustion of depth as well. Essential, but buy from the artist's site.

Just wonderful, and more close-up detail images than any other book I've seen. I wish I could get books of this quality on many other artists.

Highly recommended for beginners and experienced artists alike. This book gives a basic overview of techniques and each technique is illustrated either with a step by step example, or a selection of relevant artworks. Very easy to read and simply written. Contains a varied selection of paintings too which is useful, although the quality varied considerably.

Does just what it says on the cover! Well, near enough, it is a good start anyway. Don't be put off by the daggy cover art, there are some wonderful (if slightly dated in some cases) paintings inside and most importantly, all images are reproduced at a reasonable size so you can see properly what is happening.

Once you've learned how to paint better, make sure you know how to paint so that your art will be around and in good condition for years to come! This book is very VERY technical (and hard going to read), but contains good information on materials as regards the longevity of your work.

Not as good as the aforementioned QED book, but solid.

A great overview, especially for 10$. The reproductions were of a high quality and the text was pretty good too. The only thing lacking was close-ups of the work so you could see the painting technique.

A great book, I plan to try some of my own illusions soon. This book is printed on the thickest paper I've ever seen.
