![]() | The Family Man
Buy new: $3.49 / Used from: $1.20 Did you take the right path? Do you live with what ifs? The holidays bring out regret so poignantly, and help us focus on what really matters. Does the wealthy, cocky Jack Campbell have it all? Of course not. The Family Man, is another movie about redemption that can only be found in family, and the magic Christmas Eve.

![]() | Scrooged
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $7.94 Gotta love Bill Murray. The classic Dickens tale is retold in big city fashion for a self- absorbed entertainment executive. You know the story, of course. So the magic is in the retelling, and the inevitable humor with Bill Murray in the starring role.

![]() | The Nativity Story
Buy new: $8.99 / Used from: $4.56 Before Santa, carols, trees and lights, there was a teenage girl in a rural town, two millennia ago. The story is touching and emotionally honest. You thought you knew the story already. Trust me, you dont until you see this movie.

![]() | The Preacher's Wife
Buy new: $12.49 / Used from: $7.50 A community, a church, a family: all are in need of a Christmas miracle. Dudley the angel arrives to answer their prayers. Watch this any time of the year. But I especially recommend it in mid-December when the pressure and commercial gloss leave you needing a shot of the true meaning of Christmas. The soundtrack and musical numbers with Whitney Houston are bonus.

![]() | While You Were Sleeping
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $4.10 Sandra Bullocks Lucy, is single, without family, and in a rut as she works the token booth for the Chicago trains on Christmas Day. Tragedy provides opportunity for family, even if she has to lie. Does she lie for herself, or to protect the family that takes her in? The results are funny and sweet.

![]() | A Christmas Story (Full-Screen Edition)
Buy new: $10.49 / Used from: $10.99 Admit it, you didnt see it in the theatre. No one did, except me, and the other people working the popcorn counter. Since you werent there, we had lots of time to slip into the theatre and watch it during the brief run. You dont have to buy the DVD right now either, unless you want a commercial-free version. This lovely family show is usually played to death on television.

![]() | Last Holiday (Full Screen Edition)
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $3.53 This movie is less about Christmas, and more about finding what is valuable in your life.
Although it is set around the Christmas season, the message is timeless. We have another lonely heroine. This one isnt afraid of asking God Why me, why now.

![]() | Love Actually (Full Screen Edition)
Buy new: $7.49 / Used from: $6.25 Pretty sure this is the only R rated film on the list. Its rated R for its very British handling of sexuality. This same very accepting sensibility, applied to the very non-British theme of love, is a tear jerker every time, as it looks at love in the family from different voices and points of view. So be aware, and watch with tissues, but without the kids.

![]() | The Holiday
Buy new: $5.49 / Used from: $2.99 Could our heroines have found their true loves, without the prompting of the season? This is another personal favorite that doesnt fit the family bill. The holidays again put that laser focus on what is important. I love Cameron Diaz in most any movie. Jude Laws sensitive and weepy boyfriend may not exist in real life, but I can dream. Thats why we have the movies.
