One of my favorite movies of any genre, this tale of possession is top-notch and scary (at least the first several viewings).

Highly influential movie that expertly marries suspense and scares with masterful movie making and a terrific music score. Perfectly captures the feel of the Midwest at Halloween, my favorite time.

A shame Kubrick didn’t make more horror films because he had such a knack for humanity’s natural horror. Accept no substitutes.

Along with “Rosemary’s Baby” and “Repulsion,” “The Tenant” makes the third in Roman Polanski’s loosely-connected trilogy about the horrors of apartment-dwelling in the big city. This one is not quite as accessible as the other two, though having Polanski in the lead role makes for bizarre, funny and great viewing.

Sam Raimi’s monumental fan favorite provides humor, gore galore and even a scare or two, all on a shoestring budget. A classic by all accounts.

A remake of sorts of the 1942 classic. This one isn’t great, but I like it for Nastassja Kinski and for its feline grisliness.

This movie should have been better than it was (could’ve done without Keanu Reeves), but it is well made and stylish enough to earn a spot on my list of favorites.

This spooky and atmospheric tale of mutilated victims being brought back to life gets the royal treatment from the fine folks at Blue Underground.

Three attractive young women and their two male friends become stranded at a run-down museum, run by a lonely widower who happens to have telekinetic powers.

Not precisely horror, but here as the default category. We become as frustrated as Sgt. Howie as he searches for Rowan Morrison amongst the secretive residents of Summerisle.
