Movies I profoundly regret seeing

Double ImpactDouble Impact
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $3.41
I'm cheating with this selection, but it's unique in my life: the one and only film I've ever walked out on. I fell asleep first. 'Nuff said. (And I liked "Timecop.")
Reflecting Skin [VHS]Reflecting Skin [VHS]
Buy used from: $19.90
I'm tempted to avoid mentioning this, since it seems to be fading into obscurity, but since I hate it more than just about any movie I've ever seen...gruesome, nihilistic, homophobic, vile, pointless.
Hocus PocusHocus Pocus
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $6.98
Good cast (Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, SJ Parker) & cute idea. Unspeakable torture in execution, except for Midler singing "I Put A Spell On You" and Penny Marshall's cameo.
Naked Lunch - Criterion CollectionNaked Lunch - Criterion Collection
Buy new: $27.49 / Used from: $18.99
I own this goof: I read the reviews and knew what I was getting into, but I was just too curious, especially since the book is nigh-unfilmable. Ta-da! A movie that's nigh- unwatchable, especially for those who dislike insects. Unrelettingly disturbing, ultimately pointless & nauseating.
A Clockwork Orange (Two-Disc Special Edition)A Clockwork Orange (Two-Disc Special Edition)

I don't like Kubrick in general, though I do think he's talented. (Mouth breathers who live in their parents' basement, shut up and stop flaming me.) This, however, for me, is his most thoroughly reprehensible film, and I can't enjoy it on any level, not even as satire.
TwistTwist
Buy new: $24.99 / Used from: $5.98
Hey, here's an idea! Let's take "Oliver Twist" and make it a modern-day hustler story, keeping all of Dickens' squalidness and toughness but removing every shred of humanity and the hard-won happy ending! We'll just make it even worse! You'll feel cheated and depressed! You'll want to kill yourself! You'll...hey, where are you going?
HookHook
Buy new: $8.99 / Used from: $4.75
Ai-yi-yi. Big "Pan" fan here, so you can imagine my creeping sense of doom as I watched this, overinvested in it as I was. Great concept, good cast, my man SPIELBERG for God' sake; how did it all go so wrong? Cheesy "modernized" script and overlit sets, for one. (Maybe the alternate casting of Daniel Day Lewis, Kevin Kline, & Michelle Pfeiffer might've made this fly; maybe not.)
Showgirls (Fully Exposed Edition)Showgirls (Fully Exposed Edition)
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $11.94
This is semi-amusing drek for about 90+ minutes or so (especially the infamous "dolphin scene"), and Gina Gershon is deliciously evil. Then there's an ugly rape scene and the movie plummets into the sewer for the remainder of its running time, and it's not even fun garbage anymore. (Elizabeth Berkeley gives a sensational performance in "Roger Dodger," so I blame the director for her work here.)
The Main EventThe Main Event
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $4.11
There is virtually nothing funny in this movie whatsoever--and Streisand and O'Neal were comic gold in "What's Up, Doc?" Go figure.
The Blair Witch ProjectThe Blair Witch Project
Buy new: $4.99 / Used from: $1.98
I went to this expecting a creepy masterpiece of suggestion and terror. Instead, I got three bickering morons who don't know how to walk out of a scraggly, thinly-treed forest. Oh, and LEAVES! BENT TWIGS! DEAR GOD, THE HORRROR!
The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her LoverThe Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover
Buy used from: $74.95
I saw this movie with a couple that broke up soon afterwards; I think this movie did it to them. Once reputed to be "shocking" "outrageous" "daring" etc; then folks realized it's just sex and violence dressed up and stinking of "art."
Wild At HeartWild At Heart
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $5.59
So much to choose from when David Lynch goes wrong! "Mulholland Drive" is more incomprehensible, "Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me" more depressing, but there's something about this disaster that lingers in the mind--despite the repeated attempts at self-lobotomy.
Zoolander (Special Collector's Edition)Zoolander (Special Collector's Edition)
Buy new: $8.99 / Used from: $1.98
When this ended, I turned to my seatmate and said very slowly, "We must never...never...never speak of this again." OK, there are about 2 chuckles in this; the rest, I just gaped at the screen dumbstruck, probably resembling Derek Zoolander himself.
Meet the ParentsMeet the Parents
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $1.50
Fans of Schaedenfreude, nirvana! (Look it up.) Clever set pieces and sight gags try to paper over what's basically a major jerk (DeNiro) humiliating and torturing a dweeb (Stiller) for 2 hours. As a Theater of Cruelty exercise, fascinating; as a movie, leaves a sour, nasty taste in the mouth.
Freddy Got FingeredFreddy Got Fingered
Buy new: $9.98 / Used from: $0.83
Today's question: should Tom Green be set loose in a controlled environment, and filmgoers be allowed to hunt him, club him, skin him, and mount him on the wall as payback for this abomination? Discuss.
Atonement (Widescreen Edition)Atonement (Widescreen Edition)
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $1.27
Every now and then, there's a movie that "everyone" loves, and just leaves me cold. This one left me sub-zero Kelvin. Hated everything about it, right down to the cheat ending, which basically revealed most of what you've suffered through to be a lie. Coma-inducing.
As Good As It GetsAs Good As It Gets
Buy new: $8.49 / Used from: $1.91
Oh dear God, how I hate this film. Everything in it seems fraudulent, manipulative, and staged. Nicholson's too old for Hunt, I hate the cute dog, the story is a fairy tale, etc. etc. Of course, this won Hunt and Nicholson Oscars--considering Nicholson's career, a travesty of justice. (The end song is the capper on the steaming pile.)
Total RecallTotal Recall
Buy new: $5.99 / Used from: $1.74
I'm a big fan of "Blade Runner," but this OTHER Philip K. Dick work is a nasty, unpleasant, illogical, ultra-violent bucket of swill. Amazingly, some folks apparently regard it fondly; then again, some people eat cockroaches.
Red Dawn (Collector's Edition)Red Dawn (Collector's Edition)
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $8.87
80's red-baiting and happy fascism meet in a spray of bullets, detailing a chipper little fantasy about a Soviet takeover of the U.S.A. For militia group members, troglodytes, and those who hated Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze BEFORE "Dirty Dancing."
The 'BurbsThe 'Burbs
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $4.93
I don't think there's ever been another film I've seen where I literally felt every minute tick by, and thought, "I could be doing anything--anything--else with my life, and it would be better than watching this." All this, plus Rick Ducummon, the most annoying actor ever.
