![]() | The Heroic Trio
Buy used from: $3.05 Of course, the film itself. A "comic book" film, Hong Kong style.
![]() | The Heroic Trio
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $4.38 American release of the film. Better quality print but some of the "darker" sequences have been edited out. Pity, they help give the film a more adult feel. It is also missing the wonderful theme song sung by Anita Mui. Watchable, though (if you can't get a copy of the original version).
![]() | Executioners
Buy used from: $24.25 Sequel that recaptures the feel and fun of the original and a must for fans. One sequence (that I won't reveal if you haven't seen it yet) featuring Anita Mui, gets my heart going everytime I see it and is one of the best of both films.
![]() | Supercop
Buy used from: $4.88 American (and edited) version of Police Story 3: Supercop. Maggie Cheung reprises her role as the ever loyal (and very patient) girlfriend of Jackie Chan. Michelle Yeoh's performance here (few if any actresses have ever been able to go toe-to-toe with Jackie Chan!) basically earned her the roles in the Bond film, "Tomorrow Never Dies" and "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon".
![]() | The Moon Warriors
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $5.85 Anita Mui and Maggie Cheung together again in a traditional martial-arts period film.
![]() | The Soong Sisters
Buy new: $22.49 / Used from: $13.90 This fine quality, period drama is not an action film like most of my other recommendations but it does reunite Michelle Yeoh and Maggie Cheung. Based on real people and events.
![]() | Wing Chun
Buy used from: $79.97 Action/comedy with great fights (but not using the Wing Chun style of the title) where Michelle Yeoh basically meets a bunch of bad guys and kicks their butts. Also features the gifted Donnie Yen ("Highlander: Endgame" and "Shanghi Knights").
![]() | Magnificent Warriors
Buy new: $9.98 / Used from: $2.33 "Indiana Jones" style action film with Yeoh again kicking butt. It is a strong statement about her acting that such a petite lady is so believable doing this kind of action from almost the beginning of her career. She didn't start studying martial arts until she began her film work but she was a trained dancer before that.
![]() | Black Dragon (aka Miracles)
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $2.19 Anita Mui was an accomplished singer before turning to acting and that is basically what she is in this film. Not an action role for her but a good film and a typically good performance on her part.
![]() | La Brassiere
Buy new: $17.99 / Used from: $8.00 Screw-ball comedy that is one of my favorite performances by Anita Mui. In it she plays a spoiled prince (yes, male!) as well as the ghost of one of his ancestors.
![]() | Dragon Inn
Buy new: $17.99 / Used from: $3.00 Excellent martial-arts period film that reminds us why an actress known primarily for her extensive dramatic work (Maggie Cheung) would be thought of for an action film like "The Heroic Trio". Features Brigitte Lin ("The Bride with White Hair")
![]() | Green Snake
Buy new: $17.99 / Used from: $8.99 Fantasy with Maggie Cheung working with the wonderful director, Tsui Hark ("A Chinese Ghost story" and "Once Upon a Time in China" as well as the lesser but well known american films "Knock off" and "Double Team").
![]() | The Untold Story
Buy used from: $28.19 Anthony Wong, who played the lead villian in "Executioners" and the scene-stealing evil henchman in "the Heroic Trio", earned the 1993 Hong Kong film award for best actor for his performance in this film. He is an excellent actor with many good movies to look for. He works again with Maggie Cheung and Anita Mui in the film, "Mad Monk" but it is a difficult film to find.
![]() | Yes, Madam!
Buy used from: $29.50 Anthony Wong appears in this very good action film with Michelle Yeoh, Cynthia Rothrock and Sammo Hung (Martial Law).
![]() | My Father is a Hero
Buy used from: $9.63 Released in America (and again, edited) as "Jet Li's The Enforcer", we see Anita Mui along with Damian Lau who played her husband in "The Heroic Trio" and "Executioners".
![]() | Magic Crane/Rivals of the Dragon
Buy used from: $1.36 "The Magic Crane" is a martial-arts fantasy with Anita Mui and Damian Lau appearing again. Produced by Tsui Hark.
![]() | Ah Kam
Buy new: $23.49 / Used from: $19.34 Damian Lau appears in this Michelle Yeoh film that is one of her most critically acclaimed.
![]() | Duel to the Death
Buy new: $26.99 / Used from: $5.44 Early work by and a very different role for Damian Lau than "The Heroic Trio". Traditional martial-arts/sword-fighting film that is better than most if it's genre.
