JOHN CULLUM made his Broadway debut playing Sir Dinadan ("Then You May Take Me to the Fair"), understudying Arthur & Mordred, & eventually replacing Mordred. Busy guy.

Replacements for Cervantes/Quixote (MAN OF LA MANCHA) & Edward Rutledge (1776), CULLUM earns both the Drama Desk Award & Best Actor Tony as patriarch Charlie Anderson. Stirring, old-fashioned musical.

I've yet to hear Sharon Burgett's "Rodgers and Hammerstein-esque" version, but with a cast including CULLUM, Barbara Cook, Judy Kaye & Max Showalter, how could one go wrong?

For nearly a year, JOHN CULLUM played Caldwell B. Cladwell in this Brechtian tale of water shortage & corporate corruption, earning a Best Actor Tony nomination. He died on January 18, 2004.

"Welcome Home," "Be Kind to Your Parents," "Love Is a Very Light Thing." PLEASE, Sony/BMG, please reissue this wonderful recording, PINZA's final Broadway appearance. Best Actor Tony to Walter Slezak.

KERT played Eileen Heckart's son, Gerry Siegal, in this Kander & Ebb failure (65 perf). His best moments are the duets with Rita Gardner: "There's a Room in My House" & "Anything for You."

Metropolitan Opera tenor ROBERT ROUNSEVILLE is perhaps best known for the 1951 movie, "The Tales of Hoffman." On this fine recording, as Prince Karl Franz he sings "Deep in My Heart" & "Serenade."

The Padre was ROUNSEVILLE's final Broadway appearance: "I'm Only Thinking of Him," "To Each His Dulcinea," "Psalm." (Previously he was Charlie Dalrymple in a revival of BRIGADOON.) Died Aug. 6, 1974.

Kurt Weill's "Great American Opera." Tenor BRIAN SULLIVAN sings "Lonely Home" & several duets with Anne Jeffreys: "We'll Go Away Together," "Don't Forget the Lilac Bush," "Remember That I Care."

DUNCAN was also the first to play Stephen Kumalo in Kurt Weill's musical about South African apartheid. "Thousands of Miles" & the title song are outstanding. Weill's last musical; he died at age 50.

Although he starred in this flop (17 performances), SIEPI wasn't interested in making the recording. So tenor (???) PAUL SORVINO sings the part of Vittorio Bruno. He's really quite good, too.

Super voices! Superb recording! Anita Gillette and opera stars GIORGIO TOZZI, Jean Fenn and FRANK PORRETTA. Lush orchestrations, beautiful choral singing, and the music of Johann Strauss, Sr. & Jr.

New York City Opera tenor FRANK PORRETTA may not have any Broadway credentials, but he is marvelous as Charlie Dalrymple on this recording: "Come to Me, Bend to Me" & "I'll Go Home with Bonnie Jean."
