2006... An appealing Will Ferrell. Dustin Hoffman and Queen Latifah all give very respectable performances as does the relatively unknown Tony Hale. An excellent return to form for Emma Thompson. What really seals the deal is Maggie Gyllenhal as Ferrell's love interest, the anti-establishment baker he is assigned to audit. She literally lights up the screen.

2006... The consistently excellent Maggie Gyllenhaal does an excellent job as the pregnant wife of rookie Jimeno. Both Maggie Gyllenhaal and Maria Bello, though individual, serve as a microcosm for the thousands of others there that day, both the dead and the survivors. It's a true testament to Gyllenhaal's talent that she turns a rather sour role into a passionate, moving performance.

2006... The voice and motion capture performances, shot in only 34 days, are almost all excellent. My favorite was Maggie Gyllenhaal, who was wonderful in her supporting part as babysitter "Z". The character of Zee is awe-inspiring, with her exaggerated body language that probably made Maggie herself blush.

2006... Besides the Oscar quality performance of Maggie Gyllenhall, this film brilliantly attacks the very difficult subject of what lies in store for a woman who has fallen into the abyss of drugs, prison, loss of her child and is trying to return within a system that seems to be hell bent on destroying her.

2005... For me live-in lovers Billy Crudup and Maggie Gyllenhall delivered sparkling performances far more sympatici than the married pair of Julianne Moore and David Duchovny. Lovable and bubbly Gyllenhaal is wonderful. She is the best thing in the movie and rises above the weak material.
The Great New WonderfulThe Great New Wonderful
Buy new: $24.49 / Used from: $0.34
2005... Maggie Gyllenhaal, a young entrepreneur who wants to blot the competition out. A film full of wonderful performances, to name one Edie Falco(The Sopranos). A well written story about characters coping with the aftermath of September 11th.
Happy EndingsHappy Endings

2005... Maggie Gyllenhaal turns in an accomplished performance in a particularly tough role. What a lovely singing voice, her rendition of Billy Joel's "Just the Way You Are" was heartbreaking. A sly and seductive film about happiness.

2004... Remake of the very successful foreign film, "Nine Queens", "Criminal" without comparison, will entertain all of you grifters. Only Maggie Gyllenhaal exceeds the level of the cast, but she is such a good actress that her talent seems almost wasted here. Again, well casted for the part.

2004... This film begins in a classroom with a professor asking his students, "If it was acceptable to give up your rights for 1 day if the government could guarantee that it could get rid of terrorism, would you?" He then proceeds to ask the same question, but extending the time period from 1 day to 10 years. Maggie Gyllenhaal impresses. Raving and hot, she continues to make her presense known.

2004... Maggie Gyllenhaal, who is the sexually promiscuous girl who idealizes her teacher. Her scenes are truly interesting, mostly because it gives the movie some true emotion. Not to take away from what the movie is about... Gyllenhaal predictably gives a mesmorizing performance. How can you not fall in love with her?
Casa de los BabysCasa de los Babys
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $0.01
2003... It could be Rita Moreno who almost steals the film as the head of the adoption centre. 'Casa de Los Babys' is an enjoyable touching film that may just make you broody. All the women are very watchable, and are given space to get emotional without reverting to sentimental melodrama.
Confessions of a Dangerous MindConfessions of a Dangerous Mind
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $1.45
2002... What makes this movie so good is the willingness of actors to be in it. Julia Roberts does a fantastic job, one of her most un-characteristic roles. Then there was cameos by Maggie Gyllenhaal(who stars in the controversial "Secretary", ironically she almost plays a secretary-like character). Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio were in it as non-speaking bachelor's.
Adaptation (Superbit Collection)Adaptation (Superbit Collection)

2002... Like "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind", excellent cast. The funniest, craziest, just plain best movie about writing and writers I've seen. Including great actors making great cameos. Such as Tilda Swinton, Judy Greer, Maggie Gylenhaal, Ron Livingston, and Stephen Tobolowsky.
40 Days and 40 Nights40 Days and 40 Nights
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.01
2002... Crude, and physically impossible, "40 Days and & 40 Nights" still holds up for me on a fun weekend flick. Gyllenhaal fits the bill for that protective, informative, honest roommate. Only if we could've seen more of her, though she does what she can with the small role.

2002... Maggie Gyllenhaal deserves an Oscar nomination for her brilliant portrayal of borderline psychotic, self-mutilating Lee Holloway. Her and James Spader are perfect in your not so typical office romance. Two great actors, one great film. My all-time favorite Gyllenhaal quote, "Each cut, each scar, each burn, a different mood or time."

2001... Directed by Penny Marshall(Big, A League of their Own). Maggie Gyllenhaal gives us another unforgettable heart warming performance. You enjoy the ride of watching Drew Barrymore and Steve Zahn. The movie plays out as a fairy tale, but it's not, it's real life. And real life can be brutal.

2001... Masterful work by Richerd Kelly and Jake Gyllenhaal. There's no noticable flaw throughout the film, only different expectations of the viewer. A film that's wide open to interpretation.
Cecil B. DementedCecil B. Demented

2000... Any film with Alicia Witt and Maggie Gyllenhaal has very good things going for it visually. And although a little weird for mainstream audiences, "Cecil B. DeMented is a very entertaining film. Imagine a spoof about the American film industry and American movie audiences, packaged as a cross between "Dr. Strangelove" and "State and Main".
The PhotographerThe Photographer
Buy new: $9.98 / Used from: $0.48
2000... From acting to visuals this film is a gem. This is Maggie Gyllenhaals' first big role and it is a wonderful start to a now star studded career. The writer/director, Jeremy Stein, has created a remarkable movie that not only is about something but is also vastly entertaining.
HomegrownHomegrown
Buy new: $9.95 / Used from: $1.99
1998... Though Stephen Gyllenhaal is a good TV director with a few good full-length to his credit, "Homegrown" can be a mess in its script and direction. Despite performances from Billy Bob Thorton, John Lithgow, Kelly Lynch, Jon Bon Jovi, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Ted Danson, a cast this good couldn't save the film for all of you viewer's. Maggie's only in it for 30 seconds as a babysitter.
The Patron Saint of LiarsThe Patron Saint of Liars
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $2.51
1998... Somewhat of a weak movie, but based on a great book. The Patron Saint of Liars is a sad story of a woman, who's unhappy with who she is. Detailing how she runs from her first life, putting herself into another life. Never quite happy. A small early role for Maggie Gyllenhal. Worth a watch
The Terror InsideThe Terror Inside

1996... Heather Locklears' portrayal of a dissociative identity disorder is the best I've seen yet. Also known as multiple personality disorder. Maggie only gets seconds of onscreen time as a clothes clerk in this one. Still, a decent thriller.

1993... Stephen Gyllenhaal directs with great style. Debra Winger gives her character a real life of her own. Man, is she homely. She wears thick glasses, has her hair tied back like the head of a mop, wears no makeup, and pinches her lips together and twitches from time to time. Nominated for her work here.

1992... Stephen Gyllenhaal has worked out the difficulty posed by a narrative that expands many years into blending history. What happens is Tom, who is an older man now, recounts his youth to the history class he teaches in Pittsburgh. There is a glimpse of Maggie Gyllenhaal at the beginning of the film, sadly that's all you see of her. Still her first movie ever.
