2006... An appealing Will Ferrell. Dustin Hoffman and Queen Latifah all give very respectable performances as does the relatively unknown Tony Hale. An excellent return to form for Emma Thompson. What really seals the deal is Maggie Gyllenhal as Ferrell's love interest, the anti-establishment baker he is assigned to audit. She literally lights up the screen.

2006... The voice and motion capture performances, shot in only 34 days, are almost all excellent. My favorite was Maggie Gyllenhaal, who was wonderful in her supporting part as babysitter "Z". The character of Zee is awe-inspiring, with her exaggerated body language that probably made Maggie herself blush.

2005... For me live-in lovers Billy Crudup and Maggie Gyllenhall delivered sparkling performances far more sympatici than the married pair of Julianne Moore and David Duchovny. Lovable and bubbly Gyllenhaal is wonderful. She is the best thing in the movie and rises above the weak material.

2005... Maggie Gyllenhaal turns in an accomplished performance in a particularly tough role. What a lovely singing voice, her rendition of Billy Joel's "Just the Way You Are" was heartbreaking. A sly and seductive film about happiness.

2004... This film begins in a classroom with a professor asking his students, "If it was acceptable to give up your rights for 1 day if the government could guarantee that it could get rid of terrorism, would you?" He then proceeds to ask the same question, but extending the time period from 1 day to 10 years. Maggie Gyllenhaal impresses. Raving and hot, she continues to make her presense known.

2003... It could be Rita Moreno who almost steals the film as the head of the adoption centre. 'Casa de Los Babys' is an enjoyable touching film that may just make you broody. All the women are very watchable, and are given space to get emotional without reverting to sentimental melodrama.

2002... Like "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind", excellent cast. The funniest, craziest, just plain best movie about writing and writers I've seen. Including great actors making great cameos. Such as Tilda Swinton, Judy Greer, Maggie Gylenhaal, Ron Livingston, and Stephen Tobolowsky.

2002... Maggie Gyllenhaal deserves an Oscar nomination for her brilliant portrayal of borderline psychotic, self-mutilating Lee Holloway. Her and James Spader are perfect in your not so typical office romance. Two great actors, one great film. My all-time favorite Gyllenhaal quote, "Each cut, each scar, each burn, a different mood or time."

2001... Masterful work by Richerd Kelly and Jake Gyllenhaal. There's no noticable flaw throughout the film, only different expectations of the viewer. A film that's wide open to interpretation.

2000... From acting to visuals this film is a gem. This is Maggie Gyllenhaals' first big role and it is a wonderful start to a now star studded career. The writer/director, Jeremy Stein, has created a remarkable movie that not only is about something but is also vastly entertaining.

1998... Somewhat of a weak movie, but based on a great book. The Patron Saint of Liars is a sad story of a woman, who's unhappy with who she is. Detailing how she runs from her first life, putting herself into another life. Never quite happy. A small early role for Maggie Gyllenhal. Worth a watch

1993... Stephen Gyllenhaal directs with great style. Debra Winger gives her character a real life of her own. Man, is she homely. She wears thick glasses, has her hair tied back like the head of a mop, wears no makeup, and pinches her lips together and twitches from time to time. Nominated for her work here.
