Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $0.95
Starts as a small human interest film about a father trying to recover custody of his kids, but builds to even more universal themes. A VERY pleasant surprise!! Directed by Bruce Beresford(Tender Mercies, Driving Miss Daisy, King David)
Man on FireMan on Fire
Buy new: $9.49 / Used from: $1.49
An action film which still has a brain and a heart, and has some spiritual overtones. Based upon a true story. What a world.
Gladiator (Widescreen Edition)Gladiator (Widescreen Edition)
Buy new: $12.99 / Used from: $2.92
Oscar winner for Best Picture 2000. Dramatic, interesting, visually impressive film.
All the Pretty HorsesAll the Pretty Horses
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $1.99
A sad tale to be sure, but a film about endurance, integrity, and faith. A fine directorial effort from the multi-talented Billy Bob Thornton. Soundtrack is excellent and includes a great song FAR AWAY, by Marty Stuart which is barely heard in the film.
The Gospel of JohnThe Gospel of John
Buy new: $9.49 / Used from: $7.49
For those who have never gotten into the actual Bible, this film makes it accessible and transposes perhaps the most important book of the Bible word for word. No distortions or interpretation. Beautifully done.
Because of Winn-DixieBecause of Winn-Dixie
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $0.99
This is one of those 'family' films which actually is(contrary to most that are advertised as such) a movie enjoyable and worthwhile for all ages.
Broken BridgesBroken Bridges
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $1.73
Soft-sell Christianity. Superficial, true, but it's a heartwarmer.
RuffianRuffian
Buy used from: $58.46
For those who lived thru the career of prob the greatest all-time female race horse, this can't match the drama. But it's a good replica for those who weren't around at the time.
The Last Samurai (Full Screen Edition)The Last Samurai (Full Screen Edition)
Buy new: $11.49 / Used from: $0.49
This is one of the few Tom Cruise vehicles I have liked. Nothing against Cruise, just don't care much for his choice of roles. Despite the ho-hum anti-military and anti-USA propoganda, it's a film with heart and passion.
Flyboys (Widescreen Edition)Flyboys (Widescreen Edition)
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $0.74
Excellent warplane action. Good story based upon a true one. Despite the boring overdone cliche where the Bible-believer is shown to be a jerk and 'enlightened' by others, it's an otherwise good film.
61*61*
Buy new: $5.98 / Used from: $1.14
Based upon the actual 1961 chase of Babe Ruth's single season home run record, by both Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle.
Facing the Giants (Widescreen)Facing the Giants (Widescreen)
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $4.55
Controversial film rated PG. Why? Christians know that the principles espoused by this film work, and even if they didn't, what's the harm?
Henry Poole Is HereHenry Poole Is Here
Buy new: $14.98 / Used from: $1.71
A pleasing 2008 surprise. Sensitive thoughtful film that raises and faces important questions.
The Gin GameThe Gin Game
Buy new: $4.99 / Used from: $0.01
Great to see two of my favorite actors re-united. Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore in this good play, formerly a vehicle for Tony-winning spouses Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy.(A TV production).
The HurricaneThe Hurricane
Buy new: $9.49 / Used from: $0.63
True story of former middleweight boxing contender Rubin Hurricane Carter's eventual release from prison for apparently being unjustly convicted.
Gran Torino [Theatrical Release]Gran Torino [Theatrical Release]
Entertaining and interesting Clint Eastwood film about the gradual enlightenment of a racist loner. Makes this list even though I don't find the ending believable.
