Books I've read so far this Summer

Whisper of DeathWhisper of Death by Christopher Pike
Buy used from: $0.01
I couldn't sleep so I went and randomly grabbed something short and sweet. Wasn't the best Pike book I've read, but I liked the cheesy yet spooky mini-stories. Also has those pg-13 sex situations that I loved to read when I was in the 6th grade lol. I've definately read worse.
Henry and June: From "A Journal of Love" -The Unexpurgated Diary of Anais Nin (1931-1932)Henry and June: From "A Journal of Love" -The Unexpurgated Diary of Anais Nin (1931-1932) by Anais Nin
Buy new: $10.08 / Used from: $0.06
When I started to read this I had kind of a hard time getting into the flow of it since it was translated from french (maybe?) and written in the early 1930s. I eventually got sucked in to Nin's world. Henry's love letters were amazing. However I just couldn't continue to read it, too much romanticism I suppose. I want to finish it though. I did however pick up the book of just their love letters.
Indecent: How I Make It and Fake It as a Girl for HireIndecent: How I Make It and Fake It as a Girl for Hire by Sarah Katherine Lewis

Freaking Outstanding. Couldn't put it down. I think this is why I stopped reading Henry and June. =O Passed on to a friend to read.
Chain Letter (Avon Camelot Books)Chain Letter (Avon Camelot Books) by Christopher Pike
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $0.01
I don't know why I started to read this, but it was really freaking good. The ending was a bit predictable - but regardless I highly enjoyed it. Love Christopher Pike.
The Confession (Fear Street, No. 38)The Confession (Fear Street, No. 38) by R. L. Stine
Buy new: $5.99 / Used from: $2.36
This was one of the only Fear Street books I dug up from my old books. I wanted something light so I read this. It was just like Pike's Chain Letter, but a little watered down and a tad different. It was highly predictable, but served its purpose of a quick enjoyment to pass some time.
Road to Nowhere (reissue)Road to Nowhere (reissue) by Christopher Pike
Buy new: $5.99 / Used from: $2.22
I decided to re-read this because it was a favorite from high school. Its still an amazing book. The part where Jack's mouth leaves red wine stains all over Teresa's body where he kisses her. HOT! Must give to squirrel friend.
SweetbloodSweetblood by Pete Hautman
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $0.01
Pretty Good - Got this from a thrift store for $0.80! Read just about all of it in one sitting. The ending was a little lame but I loved reading about the cheesy goth parties. Must loan to squirrel friend.
CarrieCarrie by Stephen King
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.01
Read in one sitting. The movie was better. I hated how there were no chapters and the stupid medical journal excerpts were just annoying. Had there been chapters and no medical journals it would have been better. Another Thrift Store find.
Flowers in the Attic (Dollanganger)Flowers in the Attic (Dollanganger) by V.C. Andrews
Buy new: $8.64 / Used from: $3.44
Yet another thift store find. I don't see what all the dramatics were about with this book. There were only 3 incest scenes and she didn't really go into detai. For some reason I always thought of my husband during them and forgot they were brother and sister. I want to know more about what this book was based on. Golly Lolly! /vomit I hated those bratty twins. It was an alright read.
MonsterMonster by Christopher Pike
Buy used from: $0.01
"This is not intimacy. This is sexual insanity." Ugh, poor Pike. The only thing that saves this book is the obligatory sex in it. For a YA novel there is quite a bit of sex. Its a bit too sci-fi for me and at times hard to understand. I only continued to read it in hopes of a really good plot twist. One never came.
The CliqueThe Clique by Lisi Harrison
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $0.01
This series is extremely popular, so I picked up the 1st book of the series. I actually enjoyed it. Its not the best book I've read, it wasn't overly compelling, but it was a nice light read. I'll probably get the rest of the series and read some of the other series by the same publisher.
The Midnight ClubThe Midnight Club by Christopher Pike
Buy new: $4.99 / Used from: $0.01
This is supposedly one of Pike's best books that aren't part of a series - I don't agree at all. It wasn't overly horrible, but it was extremely boring up until 2/3 of the way through. The back synopsis is completely misleading and the first few chapters were incredibly long. I guess it was an ok story though.
Private (Private, Book 1)Private (Private, Book 1) by Kate Brian
Buy new: $8.99 / Used from: $0.01
After reading The Clique, I've decided to read Private. It was recommended for people who enjoyed The Clique and I've heard its actually better. I guess we'll see!
Oh My GothOh My Goth by Gena Showalter
Buy new: $9.95 / Used from: $0.50
Someone recommended this to me and it was actually a pretty good read. It was a bit predicable, but I'd like to see this made into a movie. I think all the different goth costumes would be neat. I wish it would have explained the end a little bit more though.
The New Girl (Fear Street, No. 1)The New Girl (Fear Street, No. 1) by R. L. Stine
Buy new: $5.99 / Used from: $2.46
I read this over a decade ago, but I want to read all the Fear Street books over again from the beginning. This was the first. I want something quick and light and Fear Street books are perfect for that!
