"Hold until relieved." Dramatization of the events of D-Day. Glory and confusion of war. The first big budget remeberance of the need for WWII and the sacrifice of the soldiers. Great depiction of the scope of D-Day. The later depictions in Big Red One and Saving Private Ryan focused more on the horrors at a small unit scale.

The follow up to Tora Tora Tora, reusing much of the footage from that earlier movie. A bit short-changed on the budget, but a good depiction of the pivotal battle which marked the line in the sand for the US and Japan.

Who can forget the whistling tune of Col. Bogey's march? My first memory of a truly anti-war film. Fictionalized story. Always reminds me of the Jerry Lewis film which had a parody of the film in it.

Existence in a Japanese prison camp. Intense, well done adaptation of the Novel by the author of Shogun/Taipan (in that series). Fictional story. If made today, the temptation to graphically depict everything would have destroyed the subtle treatment of the underlying message.

The Duke doing his part to support the Vietnam war effort. Fictionalized, Jingoistic, but watchable film. Ballad of the Green Beret. Possibly the 1st Vietnam war film.

Great collection of classic pics. Battleground is the percursor Band of Brothers, about a unit of the 101st at Bastonge. The Big Red One is a good one, following a squd from the 1st div. Bulge fictionalized story of real events from a HQ point of view. Where Eagles Dare, great Spy/sabatoge movie.

Great film. True story of an amazing battle. Early Michael Cane performance. Narrator is Richard Burton. Filmed with real Zulu warriors in Africa.

Great movie, great performances. Bio-pic of Sgt. York, a WWI Hero. Underlying theme of why sometimes you must go to war and fight.

Benefits from cooperation of the post-war Navy. The PT boat squadrons were poorly used and treated as expendable. FL deals with a USMC squdron and the difficulty of command.

Great protest movie disguised as an action/adventure movie. Very anti-military establishment, with Mike Curb Congregation in the soundtrack! A comedy with a war movie spin.

Cary Grant and Audry Hepburn in the Pacific during WWII. Funny and at the same time movie about serious circumstances with coast watcher in the Solomons.

James Cagney sings and dances. Bio-Pic of James Cohan the great entertainer. Great performance.

Fictionalized story of POWs escaping from Germans in Italy. Movie refered to in "The Godfather" as the role which revitalized Sinatra's career.

Excellent adaptation of the novel. Focus is on a WWII AAF bomber group in the mediterranian theater of operations flying B-24s and the insanity of war.

Story of the Boxer Revolt in China in 1900, and the legation guards who worked together to protect the westerners trapped in the city. Well done picture on a large scale.

Remake of the earlier classic film. WWI was not a pretty war.

One of my favorite after school movies. Excellent retelling of the hunt for the Bismark. Who can forget the Johnny Horton song?

Funny Movie with Jerry as a poor magician drafted into the USO during the Korean War. Parody of Col. Saito from the Bridge over the river Kwai. One of many Lewis films that were shown over and over when I was growing up.

Great comedy caper, with Paul Newman at his comedic best. Kind of like cool hand luke meets Hogan's Heroes.
