When I was a kid I hated Kirk Douglas, Tony Curtis, AND Ernest Borgnine, and yet here's a movie I love that stars all three of them. Go figure.

Since we're talking about Banderas, he also made a damned fine Zorro, at least in the first of the two films. Add Catherine Zeta-Jones and an equally gorgeous black Andalusian horse and you've got yourself a good time with some nice stunt work and pretty fair swordplay too!

Speaking of FUN, WHO'S FOR A LITTLE BOLLYWOOD?! This stars Shahrukh Khan as the legendary titular emperor. Khan sings,dances,& fights his way to the throne of 3rd century Magadha & then sets his mind on real conquest only to suffer remorse & dedicate his life to spreading the teachings of Buddha. Try it, you'll love it, really!

A made for tv movie with the cast of Journey to the West, but with a spin. And an American hero of course. But Russell Wong is here as Monkey so all is not lost. If you haven't seen it, its worth a watch if only because this isn't normal western tv fare.

Ahnold's first, with a script co-written by Oliver Stone. I love Robert Howard and Conan, so at first I loathed this version. But its grown on me over time.

A very likeable sword and sorcery film with everything I look for, with the exception of locales. Singer may seem a bit too American for the role, but that's splitting hairs when you consider the problems that many other films have had. The one real problem is that this film has about 3 endings. Every time you think they're done, they're not.

Okay, I know when you guys saw this list you were expecting lots of blood and stuff and you're probably all disappointed. Sorry.

After all, the title of this list is MEN WITH SWORDS... NOT GREAT SWORDPLAY FLIX. LADYHAWKE is a wonderful little movie, almost totally ruined by the Tangerine Dream soundtrack. Whoever came up with that idea should be hunted down and shot. There's your violence for this list.

This is what Burt Lancaster was really meant for! FORGET ALL THOSE DRAMATIC ROLES AND ALL THAT OSCAR CRAP! Here he's Dardo the Arrow, the Robin Hood-esque leader of a peasant revolt against the Hessians who wins the love of a noblewoman in the process. Now that's entertainment! PLUS HIS OLD CIRCUS BUDDY NICK CRAVAT IS HERE FOR GOOD MEASURE.

As a last thought, just in case you want something to compare Banderas to, here's the version with the famous duel between Tyrone Power and real life fencer Basil Rathbone. Rumor has it that these two hated each other so much that doubles were used when an actor's back is to the camera.

As I said earlier, this one's a turn on! WHAT'S NOT TO LIKE? You've got a comedic set-up with Fu Sheng as a fake practicioner of magical kung fu, and then you have a tour de force ending with the master himself Liu Chia-Liang bringing out most of those legendary weapons and showing us what to do and how to do it! There's much to like here!

Kazakhstan finally has something that represents it better than BORAT! This is a first class epic, lush, lavish, everything that such a film should be. Plenty of fight scenes too. I'd like to credit all the actors, but can only remember Jason Scott Lee and Mark Dacasos. The others are way to ethnic for quick recall. Subtitled, but you won't care.

Season Three was my favorite year for this show. It featured alternate universe stories in which Herc was the evil tyrant, Ares was the God of Love,Xena was an air-headed slut, and Joxer was a noble hero.

We all prefer the versions we grew up with and this one is mine even though it is hardly faithful to its source material. Lots of fun and swordplay abound.

A mystically, romantic tale of Moors and Christians either at each other throats, or falling in love with each other depending on the sexes of those involved.

Probably not a grain of authenticity in it, but WOW, does it look great! Its exciting too.
