The first WR album is one of their more mellow affairs. It is full of dreamy Rhodes and bowed double bass, shimmering percussion and beautiful sax. They've never been more free sounding then they do here.

Here's where things go left field. The first side of this album is some of the most adventurous music WR ever created. The second side is edited clips from the Tokyo concert. Not one of their best works but still really exciting and unpredictable.

Witness the power of this live juggernaut! Early WR live shows were wild affairs and this concert was no exception. Just kick back and let them take you on a journey. Not for the faint of heart!

My second favorite WR album! The music begins to funk and the songs begin to groove. "Boogie Woogie Waltz" just kills every single time! This album bridges the gap between early and classic WR!
Mysterious TravellerMysterious Traveller by Weather Report

Enter Alphonso Johnson and bring on the funk! Johnson bass digs deeper than any other WR bassist before or since. This is where Zawinul begins to truely flirt with synths and more constructed music. One of the best!

The groove still lays thick but this time the world music vibes break out. A very breezy album full of wonderful melodies and deep funk!
Black MarketBlack Market by Weather Report
Buy new: $7.98 / Used from: $4.84
The absolute BEST WR album! Johnson bass playing reaches its apex within the group and Zawinul and Shorter bring their greatest compositions to the table. Also features Jaco for the first time. It will never be the same after this one! Dig the washy Rhodes sound!
Heavy WeatherHeavy Weather by Weather Report
Buy new: $7.98 / Used from: $3.57
The commercial breakthrough. Though it has some absolute classics (A Remark You Made, Palladium) I still feel it is highly overrated. Still agreat record no less!

I totally dig the experimental quality of this album. "River People" just kills me every time. Not a fantastic record, but in ways it's better than Heavy Weather.

I do like this album but to me it's more "Jaco Fest" and i'm not the biggest Jaco fan. The studio side is great though!

WR's jazziest album (in terms of performance, it's still as electric as ever, in fact more synth filled than ever). The songs down stand out, but the over all quality of the album is superb.

Own this album for the three part NYC suite. It may be the best song from the "Jaco" period of the band. Zawinul is in full control here and that's the way it should be! The last album with the Pastorius/Erskine rhythm section.
ProcessionProcession by Weather Report

Enter Omar Hakim and Victor Bailey. Very world groove oriented and unlike most reviews, very good!

Not great, but not bad either. Its easy to see WR dying at this point.

The end, should have stopped after procession or domino theory.
