Everybody Knows This Is NowhereEverybody Knows This Is Nowhere by Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $2.85
The first of a couple Neil Young albums. This was his second album and while some might find Down By the River and Cowgirl in the Sand a bit long, they are two of the best songs he ever recorded.
Wish You Were HereWish You Were Here by Pink Floyd
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $5.49
Overshadowed by Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall and perhaps a few filler songs, Welcome to the Machine comes to minds, but one of my favorite Pink Floyd albums.
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club BandSgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles
Buy new: $49.99 / Used from: $12.00
Although Revolver is a great album, Sgt. Pepper's comes closer to being perfect. Revolver has a couple of "filler" songs, but Sgt. Pepper's plays smoothly, almost like a concept album, although it is not one. If Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields had been included, it would have been even better.
Somos CorderoSomos Cordero by Cordero
Buy new: $15.98 / Used from: $3.66
Moving away from Classic Rock for a moment, Cordero is one of my favorite contemporary bands. This is the second of their four studio albums and it is almost perfect.
Tonight's the NightTonight's the Night by Neil Young
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $4.79
Great album from Neil's dark period.
Let It BleedLet It Bleed by The Rolling Stones
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $9.99
Great album.
HarvestHarvest by Neil Young
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $1.65
Something a little different than Tonight's the Night. I would almost say that I like Tonight's the Night a little more, but there's something about the relaxed feel of this album that continually draws me in. Other Neil Young albums that didn't make the list, but deserve a listen are Comes a Time, On the Beach, After the Gold Rush, and Harvest Moon, in no particular order.
Why Should the Fire Die?Why Should the Fire Die? by Nickel Creek
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $3.12
It's unfortunate that Nickel Creek is on hiatus, because their last studio album is perfect. Their other two, especially This Side, deserve a listen too, but Why Should the Fire Die? is one of the best albums of this decade.
The Joshua TreeThe Joshua Tree by U2
Buy new: $12.99 / Used from: $0.91
Achtung Baby has some great moments, but The Joshua Tree is great throughout. An album to listen to on a road trip, especially a road trip through the desert.
Abbey Road (1990)Abbey Road (1990) by The Beatles
Buy new: $12.49 / Used from: $4.80
My favorite Beatles album and the first album I think of when I think of a "perfect" album. Not a bad song, even the short pieces in the suite are great.
Blood on the TracksBlood on the Tracks by Bob Dylan
Buy new: $8.99 / Used from: $5.98
I could have put a lot of Dylan on here, as I did with Neil Young, but I decided to limit it to Blood on the Tracks because there isn't a bad song on the album. Blonde on Blonde is great, but there are some "filler" songs. Blood on the Tracks is great both lyrically and musically. My favorite Dylan album.
Aereo-PlainAereo-Plain by John Hartford
Buy used from: $55.14
It's a shame that this album is so hard to find. This may seem to come out of left field, but this is one of the most perfect albums I've ever listened to. Every song is incredible and incredible musicians played on the tracks. The band was in sync and Hartford was at his best. I cannot say enough about this album. If you are a bluegrass fan, you have to check it out.
