Japanese animated feature about another planet's program to launch the first man into space. The climactic launch and flight into orbit has a real sense of wonder. 1995.

An East German film from 1960 based on an early Stanislaw Lem novel. Cool visuals. First Spaceship On Venus is a shortened and dubbed version of this, which you might prefer if you are easily bored with slow space movies.

Battle in Outer Space. Still one of the best Japanese science fiction films. 1959.

As a sequel to the Kubrick/Clarke film, this is terrible. Taken on its own it's a good enough adventure with lots of nice effects. 1984.

Robert Heinlein wrote this low budget black and white film about a forced landing on the moon. Fun. 1953.
