By an Amazon.com customer
The Haunted World of Edward D. Wood Jr.The Haunted World of Edward D. Wood Jr.
Buy used from: $1.72
This documentary is full of cool moments. (It also shows how wonderfully loyal his friends were.) It's an engaging treatment of someone who was a true dreamer and a total misfit. 83 minutes. Features a lot of extras: "Crossroads of Laredo," Ed Wood's first film --a 22-minute Western, etc.

A+ I love this documentary! PLEASE see it. I first caught it on PBS. It's worth owning. 55 min. Short but sweet. Totally great!
Glen or GlendaGlen or Glenda
Buy new: $9.98 / Used from: $3.95
David Lynch, no less, ranks this among his all-time personal favorite films. No lie. What's heartbreaking is how much this movie meant to Ed Wood. Yes, in many ways, this was his "personal film." It's a great artifact. Earnest to a fault, weirdly romantic, and uniquely individual.
Plan 9 From Outer Space (Colorized)Plan 9 From Outer Space (Colorized)
Buy used from: $4.13
I would recommend this version of Plan 9. Contains the restored Black & White AND the colorized version. Plus, some Ed Wood home movies and some other things.
Bride of the MonsterBride of the Monster
Buy new: $9.98 / Used from: $3.19
Bride of the Monster (1955)... a.k.a. Bride of the Atom ... Hey, Ed Wood really produced 3 stand-out cult films. Some funny bits in this one. But people seem to confuse this flick with "The Bride of Frankenstein" (the crown jewel of Universal horror films of the '30s). Totally different movies, of course. (I recommend both.)
Nightmare of Ecstasy: The Life and Art of Edward D. Wood, Jr.Nightmare of Ecstasy: The Life and Art of Edward D. Wood, Jr. by Rudolph Grey
Buy used from: $4.39
This biography, which is essentially an oral history of the man, had a profound effect on me. It's a story of the marginalized in Hollywood, really. Gritty, seedy at times, Bukowski-like, compelling, ultimately heartbreaking -- right up to his sad death. A MUST HAVE for Ed Wood fans. You will shed a tear by the end. I swear. Of course, it's the basis for the Tim Burton bio pic. A++
Ed Wood (Special Edition)Ed Wood (Special Edition)
Buy new: $12.99 / Used from: $6.95
Yep, it's fun. Johnny Depp earned my respect forever with this. Everyone shines, here. Martin Landau is inspired as Lugosi. Bill Murray deserves special mention, too. Outstanding work. Oddly this film was a box office flop, which delayed the DVD release for about a decade. And it may stand as Tim Burton's best film. A tribute to the mad dreamer in all of us.

Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $12.46
Cool box set. I love it. The so-called "worst filmmaker ever" gets the royal treatment here. Other filmmakers should only be so lucky.
The Golden Turkey Awards: The Worst Achievements in Hollywood HistoryThe Golden Turkey Awards: The Worst Achievements in Hollywood History by Harry Medved
Buy used from: $0.42
This condescending book was influential in the re-discovery of Ed Wood. Of course the point was to hold him up as an object of ridicule, as in "let's all laugh at this fool." Meanwhile of course neither of the Medved brothers have produced a single worthy project of their own. They were too busy laughing, maybe?
Jail BaitJail Bait
Buy new: $9.98 / Used from: $0.30
Jail Bait (1954) ... aka Hidden Face... I adore the cover art on this DVD.
Night of the GhoulsNight of the Ghouls
Buy new: $9.98 / Used from: $3.38
Night of the Ghouls (1959) ... aka Revenge of the Dead ... also known as ... "Dr. Acula" Ed Wood also wrote a novel version of this. This film was thought lost for years. Until it was recovered at a film lab. Ed Wood couldn't afford to pay the bill...
The Sinister UrgeThe Sinister Urge
Buy used from: $7.99
"A Sinister Urge"(1961) ... aka Hellborn ... aka The Young and the Immoral -- directed by Ed Wood about the "smut" industry. Not available on DVD.

Buy used from: $195.00
Features "A Sinister Urge"(1961) ... aka Hellborn ... aka The Young and the Immoral -- directed by Ed Wood about the "smut" industry. I'm actually HATE "Mystery Science Theater," which I find totally juvenile and irritating.
The Violent YearsThe Violent Years
Buy new: $7.98 / Used from: $2.49
(1958) Written by Ed Wood, Jr. I wonder if Russ Meyer would be inspired by this girl gang stuff? Cool title
The Violent Years/Girl GangThe Violent Years/Girl Gang
Buy new: $9.98 / Used from: $5.55
From "Something Weird Video" -- I own this version which comes with Girl Gang, not Ed Wood related (except in spirit). I recommend this DVD for quality and the extras: "Drive in" trailors, etc.
Orgy of the DeadOrgy of the Dead
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $4.99
(1965) This is more sexploitation oriented, with vampira-like vixens doing the ole' bump and grind in the fog and mist. Criswell shows up, reading cue cards, looking quite drunk. Sexploitation was hot at this point. There's supposed to be a novel version of this, too.
The Ramrodder / Revenge of the VirginsThe Ramrodder / Revenge of the Virgins

"Anatomy Of A Psycho" based on a story written by Ed Wood, using the pseudonym Larry Lee.
I Woke Up Early the Day I DiedI Woke Up Early the Day I Died
Only available for region 2 players, unfortunately. This a Spanish film supposedly based on Ed Wood's last unproduced screenplay. And it features Billy Zane of Titanic in the staring role. I actually saw this film in Spain (where my parents are from), and I definitely recommend it for the Ed Wood fan, if you can play it on your DVD player.
Venus FlytrapVenus Flytrap
1970. Written by Ed Wood. A modern Frankenstein's monster story. Not so hot.

Again, Ed Wood wrote TONS of stuff, including novels like this and a crazy amount of short stories. All this novels have cool titles.
Hollywood Rat RaceHollywood Rat Race by Ed Wood Jr.
Buy new: $10.85 / Used from: $0.85
It's hilarious that Publisher's Weekly and Kirkus and many other trade journals all reviewed this (passing over other more legitimate writers to do so). Of course, it was published long after Ed Wood's demise -- it offers "advice" on getting into the film biz. Wacky, dontcha' think?
Devil GirlsDevil Girls by Ed Wood

I'm actually curious about this one. Cool title, haha.

A 2 disc set with 6 of his films + "The Ed Wood Story", which is a little dreary (featuring half-hearted interviews, etc.).
It Came From Hollywood [VHS]It Came From Hollywood [VHS]

About "so-bad-it's-good" movies. This is one of the first films in which Ed Wood's unique oddness was featured. It's affectionate toward him, so I don't mind it....

Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $7.82
This features Plan 9, plus another "so-bad-it's-surreal" movie not directed by Ed Wood, called Robot Monster. It's retro-50s Sci-fi -- but interesting.
