Mitchum is just as good a Marlowe as was Bogart, and this is a better movie. On my Listmanias: INSPIRATIONAL FILMS, and my BURIED TREASURES. You'll never forget Moose and his Velma. And watch for Sly Stallone in a pre-Rocky small role.

William Powell as private eye Nick Charles and Myrna Loy as wife Nora. Their relationship is one of the best love stories on screen. Every film in this series is a treat. Sparkling dialogue.(See my list: BEST SCREEN ROMANCES)

This is actually the original for the remake at the top of my list, Farewell My Lovely. It's good but not AS good as that one, a VERY rare instance of a remake being better than the original. Dick Powell does well and expands his career dimensions.

An homage by director Robert Altman. Gould sure is a different take on Marlowe. Love the little scene of the carpark attendant doing his impression of Lloyd Bridges. A fun moment out of the blue.

Roger Moore plays 'The Saint', Simon Templar. Pretty good series. In the 40's a film series starred George Sanders. Haven't seen any of it(I will) but I can't imagine I'd prefer Sanders.

Oscar nom for Kirk Douglas in this stage play on film.

Oscar nominations for Nicholson and Faye Dunaway.

This is the best in a string of detective movies Sinatra made.

Richard Dreyfuss plays a detective. So-so.

The Hounds Of The Baskervilles was the first and maybe the best in this movie series starring Basil Rathbone.

As a comedy,maybe this doesn't really fit the genre. But it is after all about a detective, Inspector Clouseau, in this, by far the best of the Pink Panther movie series.
