DVD - Early big-budget serious sci fi, nice production values. But the big bonus is the second disk movie, "the Invisible Boy," which is VERY much a computer movie as a major character is an artificial intelligence at a research center trying to take over the world by using Robby as well as a child (a lot of similarities between the child's mischievousness and the computer can be seen.)

DVD - Hollister Figg (Don Knotts) a not too bright city accountant becomes a patsy for a city board's scandal. Knotts discovers the mess before he is used and with some early dumpster diving and late night hacking on the computer (LEO) he is able to build a case. That is until the city council members take LEO, and it is up to Hollister to find it and save his career.

DVD - This is the movie that brought the hacker movement into the general public. Yet another AI in this one, Joshua, who is merely trying to win at an actual Thermonuclear War. Mathew Broderick, the hacker, accidentally started Joshua on his game and is determined to stop the war by finding his creator who may not be dead after all.

DVD - Michael Chriton Classic - 80s era electronics, robotics, Gene Simmons plays a great bad guy.

DVD - If you liked War Games, add this to your must see list. (There is also a VHS version)

DVD - Nice concept, though there is no universal algorithm for encoding, but fun.

DVD - One of those "The computer does exactly what you tell it to do" movies.

VHS - Hacker vs the hostage takers in a exclusive private school. Great fun too bad not on DVD.

VHS - (I hope this is the right movie) An underground computer council of college students create the "master process" computer program (in BASIC?) to fight crime, but then start committing murder.

DVD - In the protective domed city of the future the computer overseeing the populace orders a cop (sand man) played by Michael York to investigate.

DVD - A bunch of genius nerds and the professor who exploits them leads to some fun college antics

DVD - About Linux, not much old school but definitely cyber culture.

Book - One of the more entertaining reads, goes from the 60s at MIT to the 80s and early 90s, including the 80s software games industry. Fun read.

Book - This is a very good fantasy/cyberculture book series. Think of a programmer whisked from our world to a world of magic, where one could operate magic like writing programs. Lots of computerish humor and D&D style fantasy.

Book - Follow the creation of an actual minicomputer in the 80s.

VHS - Some people call this edition blasphemy but I find it much easier to follow and well orchestrated with the 80s music it has.

DVD - Almost getting past old school here, this is pre-internet so it still counts. And like Interface, all the hackers have handles.

Book - Getting hungry now? Well, have I got a cookbook for you! - it is loaded with high carb, high cheeze whiz recipes (most require only a bowl, wooden spoon and/or microwave) for the late night hacking/coding sessions. As well as some good snippets of humor.

Book - Could not have a complete list without the venerable book - Basic Computer Games book. 101 computer games early Microsoft BASIC, usually geared for 80 column screens and TTY output. Many such games show up as BBS doors of PHP and Java games now.

The Computer movie of its time, Nice shots of 60s era tech and Lawrence Hall of Science. A time where top programmers were in their 30s and 40s, smoked on the job and had office parties with alcohol. And of course the massive computers they built were taking over the world.
