With Annie Ross ailing, Yolande Bavan took the center spot between Jon Hendricks and Dave Lambert producing a different texture for the group with the same intensity and velocity. "Cloudburst", "Gimme That Wine", and "One O'Clock Jump" are terrific.

One of the best vocal groups! And one of the very best versions of Coltrane's "Giant Steps" ever. The amazing Darmon Meador opens with a high-energy walk and scat that sizzles, followed by a great solo by super-pianist Mulgrew Miller and the superior drumming of Lewis Nash with great contrapuntal group singing. Do whatever it takes to get this seminal vocal performance.

The lovely twins, Alyce and Rhae Andrece, sing in micro-tones and normal tones with Gary David on piano and also voice, with a drummer and two bassists: Ray Neapolitan, Chuck Domanico, with guest Oliver Nelson whose blazing soprano sax solos are as far out as the vocals: great group. Two CD's in one, vocal jazz fans need this one around for enjoyment.

A hard-swinging group of lovely voices that blend and bend: Eddie Jefferson's tune (Last Time I Saw) "Jeannine" and the samba "Close Your Eyes" (not the standard) are great. A superb vocal group.

A terrific 'a cappella'-ready group that uses instrumental-backing on this recording. "Laura", "So Many Stars", "Invitation", "Wave", and "Where or When" are superb renditions from the quartet that sounds like a choir.

The French super group and the trumpet master-supreme survey 'Birks bebop works'. Bud Powell, himself, is on piano. Hence the price! This group is ultra-hip and talented.

The 'other' French super group led by Ward Swingle with a cast of 8 who swing hard and color the ballads nicely. Michele LeGrande's sister is the standout soprano.
