This is THE best western ever made. Sam Peckinpah was a genius. Studio buthchered it originally, but get in all it's restored glory.

Probably the best John Wayne western. I heard he liked this role more than any other. A former Confederate searches years for a niece kidnapped by the Indians. Like most Wayne westerns, the weapons post-date the time period, but the acting and diaglog are superb, before political correctness to protray the old west as it really was.

An HBO original movie, Kris Kristofferson is enlisted to track 4 escaped outlaws in 1886 Arizona before they cross state lines. If you like the Sharps rifle, you'll this movie.

You can find this for a LOT less than $60 dollars. A young Bruce Davison is tasked with bringing in renegade apaches, with the help of Burt Lancaster as an aging scout. One of the better cavalry vs. Indians movies in the genre.

Tongue in cheek action in the era of the Wild Bunch. Set a few years after their escapades, four men set out to rescue a supposedly kidnapped wife of a railroad tycoon from a former comrade in the Mexican revolution.

The quintessential western story of good vs. evil, one man alone against a group of bad guys. The ending that disgusted John Wayne as Gary Cooper tosses his badge in the dirt.

Alan Ladd invents (or re-invents and makes his own)the gunman trying to go straight who gets drawn into his old ways to defend the town. The ending may be the most well known piece of film in Hollywood history. Also check out "One Foot In Hell", the one western I recall Ladd making where he wasn't a hero but a villian. A great movie.

The Duke's last picture. An aging gunfighter (with clips from John Wayne's earlier westerns included at the beginning in a clever idea while Ron Howard narrates) dying of cancer, as John Wayne was at the time, comes to Carson City for a second opinion and a quiet passing. The doctor (Jimmy Stewart) persuades him to literally go out with a bang. Again, great casting for a great story.

Sam Peckinpah's directoral debut was the great Randolph Scott's final film. Was supposed to be Joel McCray's finale too, but he decided to do another film after this. Great cast, James Drury, Warren Oates, L.Q. Jones, Mariett Hartley. First use of a semi-auto rifle in a western I remember seeing.

This movie and it's sequel have more historical flaws than Planter's has peanuts, but it's a damn good western. Emilio Estevez' protrayal of Billy The Kid is fantastic, down to his laughing during everything he does. I enjoy looking at weapons in movies, to see if they are period correct as well as somewhat unique, this movie (and it's sequel) has both.
