Richter recorded the WTC twice. Both are excellent. The First rec, on Melodya, might have more fire, but this issue has more substance. Still, both are first rate.

Richter was one of the first great pianists to regularly program Haydn. His Interps are unparalleled. There are two volumes on decca, both are must haves. There are 15 available Haydn Sonata's by Richter.

This contains every Debussy Prelude but two by the greatest Debussy player of the century. Just ask Ashkenazy and he will tell you as much. The rest is just as fine. Chopin at its best. A MUST HAVE

A wonderful interp of a wonderful cto. The wanderer also receives one of its finest performances.

An excellent release. The four scherzi and 13 preludes. Richter never recorded them all butt this is a large portion of what he did.

Richter was the greatest Schumann interp of the century. Though I prefer Egerov's much more depressing account of the Bunte Blatter, this is second best. Richter owns the Pictures.

Whether you get this or another disc or a comp-you need all of RIchter's Schumann. YOU MUST HEAR RICHTER"S HUMORESKE-it is transcendent.

More Schumann by the master. The Schumann Cto was Richters favourite and his many recordings of it prove a dedicated and masterful interpreter. An unparalleled Toccata and Waldszenen, along with a rare Allegro and App round out one of the finest discs in the DG catalogue.

This is a splendid treat. Prokofiev wrote the 9th for Richter especially. The sixth was premiered by Richter and the Prokofiev told Richter he was his preferred interpr for the second. All of these are available on the 50's discs. The price is ridiculous. You can get it for much less.

Thus far, I have claimed that Richter is the finest Schumann, Rach, Prokofiev, Haydn, and Debussy Interpeter. To that I add Schubert. Like Haydn, Richter was the first big pianist to incorporate Schub to his programs.

This contains several beeth sonata's, including the last three. the Liszt sonata. The Schubert D960[a richter specialty], D894[another RIchter gem] and would be a perfect place to start for those new to the Richter mines.
