![]() | The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring (Platinum Series Special Extended Edition)
Buy used from: $9.49 I picked the Fellowship but I really mean the entire trilogy, because it really is 1 movie. This is hands down the most thorough, impressive, unique & brilliantly full movie. My favorite, though I've watched them so many times I can't watch em like I use to. It's on so many different levels so far above any other movie. Probably the only example of a movie that was better than the book. Brilliant.

![]() | Harold and Maude
Buy new: $10.49 / Used from: $6.99 First of all & most obviously: it is insane, and insanely black in its comedy. At the same time, it may be the most beautiful love story. It's my personal favorite love story, and nearly my favorite movie of all time. The scene at the end when Cat Stevens' Trouble comes on and the film goes silent... Moves me every time. Not a movie for everyone undoubtedly, but terrifically lovely and unique.

![]() | The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou - Criterion Collection (2-Disc Special Edition)
Buy new: $19.99 / Used from: $6.97 Oh, Steve Zissou. Though Anderson does tend to get a little wrapped up in his idiosyncrasies at times, every film he's done has been unparalleled in uniqueness and brilliance. Life Aquatic perhaps the most unapproachable movie of his, and wouldn't rec. it first. If you like extremely dry and bleak humor, like me, Life Aquatic is there with you. Exceptionally unique. Bill Murray is incredible.

![]() | The Count of Monte Cristo
Buy new: $9.49 / Used from: $3.99 The Count of Monte Cristo: what a story! I've read the book (which was far better, considering it was Dumas' original masterpiece), but this is a great attempt at bringing the slightly altered story to the screen. The ultimate revenge plot. Perhaps the greatest adventure I've ever seen or read. "Economics is a science that deals with the production, distribution, and consumption of commodities.

![]() | The Fall
Buy new: $19.99 / Used from: $9.87 Presented by Spike Jonze, The Fall didn't get the greatest reviews. Many critics complained that Tarsem was too self-indulgent. Personally, though the story isn't flawless, he filming is breathtaking. The majestic, story-tale feel makes this movie. See it for yourself. Very enjoyable.

![]() | Pan's Labyrinth
Buy new: $7.49 / Used from: $2.00 If you haven't seen this movie, see it. Pan's is, like the box says, Alice in Wonderland for adults. Its a surprisingly misleading movie. Its not a childs movie. Its rated R for a few exceptionally gory scenes. The story is very good and the filming style is unique. del Toro's best film, hands down.

![]() | The Royal Tenenbaums (The Criterion Collection)
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $5.00 I know, I know: 2 from Wes Anderson? & I know, I know: I didn't include Rushmore. As much as I love Rushmore, theres something about Tenenbaums. The way Anderson presents the dysfunctional family is strangely spot on, though the viewer can't necessarily relate to the characters. Much more accessible than Life Aquatic, Tenenbaums is a must see, whether you've a dysfunctional family or not.

![]() | Stranger Than Fiction
Buy new: $11.49 / Used from: $0.87 Like nearly every who saw Stranger than Fiction, Will Farrel is unbelievable: he's bleak, quiet, and passionless. And who would have thought he could have pulled off an indie roll in the style, grace, and timid aloofness that he did? Terrifically unique story. Also, Emma Thompson's acting is incredible in this movie. Must see--it's not what you'd think at all.

![]() | Fargo (Special Edition)
Buy new: $9.49 / Used from: $1.47 Fargo, Fargo... I'm a pretty big Coen Bros fan, and this is probably their gem. Though it isn't as approachable as some of their other--and equally impressive--films (notably The Big Lebowski, Raising Arizona, and O, Brother, Where Art Thou?), it is the most thoroughly brilliant. Francis McDormand is unquestionably brilliant.

![]() | Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind (Widescreen Edition)
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $2.00 Took a while for this movie to grow on me. It was also my first Kaufman film. I nearly put Adaptation on the list instead, but this is one of my all-time favorite love stories. Very unique (Kaufman), bizarre (almost Kafkaesque), and entirely unique. Must see.
