LiveLive by Steppenwolf
Buy new: $18.98 / Used from: $29.93
Steppenwolf Live gives you a good sense of what it was like to attend their concert back then. Steppenwolf was not only a great rocker but also a highly political group with many a lyric reflecting the days when the change was really in the air.
SinglesSingles by Aphrodite's Child
Buy new: $37.99 / Used from: $12.48
This is a great compilation of all the best that this 60's Greek rock band came to compose. Demis Russos became the famed "high voltage", while Vangelis one of the pioneers of the electronic music.
The Beatles (The White Album)The Beatles (The White Album) by The Beatles
Buy used from: $9.98
I ve added this as the first item, since the Beatles were way ahead of anything else in Britain or in the world at the time. In fact, they kept running ahead till their very last album. The White Album was written somewhere around the time of their return from Maharishi. It comprises of 2 discs of intense and sing-along melodies, beats and lyrics that Beatles were known for.
Scorpio's DanceScorpio's Dance by Shocking Blue
Buy new: $31.99 / Used from: $49.37
This is far out. Besides the colorful "psychedelic" cover, it has very good music inside. Shocking Blue were sort of like Jefferson Airplane in Europe, they broke ground with Venus (She's Got It), and have had many hits since. I like Mariska Veres' voice more then Grey Slick's...
Between the Buttons (US)Between the Buttons (US) by The Rolling Stones
Buy new: $10.97 / Used from: $7.50
To me, this album is Stones at their best.
BlazeBlaze by Herman's Hermits
Buy used from: $9.74
Although Herman's Hermits have a rep of pie-boy band, this album is a pretty intelligent and serious effort. Produced by the engenious Mickey Most, it features some interesting dance tracks, as well as as the Beatles like grooves. I can recommend it to all the lovers of beat music.
GoldGold by Cream
Buy new: $14.97 / Used from: $8.94
This is a great compilation of one of rock's first hard'n'heavy, as well as purputedly its first "power trio". It gives a sense of what was Cream like live, which is major, and in the studio. To get back with Cream, all i have to do is not listen to them for few months, only to come back with the new power.
Cream - Royal Albert Hall - London May 2-3-5-6 2005Cream - Royal Albert Hall - London May 2-3-5-6 2005
Buy new: $26.99 / Used from: $8.20
DVD from 05 reunion. Very well made. Some songs, like Sweet wine, have never been played life before. Something that you probably be watching over and over again.
Led Zeppelin 1Led Zeppelin 1 by Led Zeppelin
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $1.39
Undoubtadly, one of the landmarks of modern music, Led Zeppelin I sours high and beyond to tickle your aura with great rythms, high pitched vocals, and classical compositions. In fact all of the compositions on this album has become classic
Led Zeppelin IILed Zeppelin II by Led Zeppelin
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $4.97
From the ashes of Yardbirds, the New Yardbirds, or Led Zeppelin Phoenix has emerged to the world wide rock dominion. Like the 1st, the 2nd album is a masterpiece of heavy blues and other good stuff.
Kingdom Come/Sir Lord BaltimoreKingdom Come/Sir Lord Baltimore by Sir Lord Baltimore
Buy used from: $59.78
From what i understand, this may ve been the very first complete heavy album in rock's history. Indeed, "fast" "heavy", "vicious", "pumped up" are a few adjectives to describe this piece of work. Recommend for all the heavy music lovers.
In Rock: 25th Anniversary (UK)In Rock: 25th Anniversary (UK) by Deep Purple
Buy new: $17.99 / Used from: $5.09
Im sure that with the release of In Rock, the rock'n'roll mentality has changed considerably, if not forever. This is very heavy even, and perhaps especially by today's standrds. No pop music here boys and girls. This s--- kicks a-- from start to the very finish.
FireballFireball by Deep Purple
Buy new: $5.98 / Used from: $3.89
Even if i would have to get this for NO NO NO, my emotions would already be satisfied. Bad enough, all songs here a great. Most have become classic in the field. The song Fireball is probably familiar from most of the "the best" com-s.
Jesus Christ Superstar (Original London Concept Recording)Jesus Christ Superstar (Original London Concept Recording) by Andrew Lloyd Webber
Buy new: $29.49 / Used from: $19.23
Rock, symphony, pop, and opera all at once. A very groovy rendition of the gospel, with one of the rock's best Ian Gillan as the Son of Man himself.
BurnBurn by Deep Purple
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $5.80
With the change of line up and emregence of a new singer by the name of David Coverdale, the Purple' music has changed too. And this album very well reflects it. The first composition Burn is heavy as hell, followed by some pretty awesome tracks like the blues Mistreated, and Lay down Stay down. Once again, the face of rock was changed forever.
Ready an' WillingReady an' Willing by Whitesnake
Buy new: $44.99 / Used from: $48.68
This is a great album with Purple's Lord and Paice involved in the making. The only problem that i found with it, was that the best tracks are tightly fitted up in the first couple of places, which makes the rest of the album sound kind of bleak...otherwise its a hell of a rock ballad of an album.
SabotageSabotage by Black Sabbath
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $5.10
Most of the early Sabbath is rock defining, i chose this one because of the dramatic change in Sabbath attitude and sound, tremendous theatrical effects, and the overall heaviness of this piece. Very heavy stuff, with beautiful compositions. Iommi is a grim as ever with the overlays by 2-3 other guitars. Cool no?
WaspWasp by Wasp
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $8.36
This is some heavy s---. Highly recomend. Masterpiece of music, craftsmanship and all the other stuff that make rock defining albums...well, rock defining.
Fear and Loathing in Las VegasFear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Buy new: $14.98 / Used from: $7.93
for the fans of all things genius wacky and tripped out in the most literal sense....
Ultimate Petula ClarkUltimate Petula Clark by Petula Clark
Buy new: $8.99 / Used from: $7.49
Petula Clarke is a great singer and musician with soft jumpy songs and optimistic lyrics that perhaps are lacking in this day and age. I like her a lot.
Red 30th Anniversary Edition RemasteredRed 30th Anniversary Edition Remastered by King Crimson
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $9.47
I don't know what these guys were into at the time, but its gonna be hard for you to find a more melodic, nostalgic, heavy, ethereal, and progressive amalgamation of melodic experimentation.
Emerson, Lake & PalmerEmerson, Lake & Palmer by Lake & Palmer Emerson
Buy new: $8.99 / Used from: $6.00
Heavy sh---t. Especially Barbarian. Whatever was made by these 3 apostles of rock at the time, had to be revolutionary. There was drive...and these guys driven that very wave of newly opened pathways of rock music.
