Mariah CareyMariah Carey by Mariah Carey
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $0.01
An amazing debut! This album is all about showing off Mariah's range, unique voice, and signature whistle. Vanishing seems timeless. It has to be the best song of her career...
EmotionsEmotions by Mariah Carey
Buy used from: $0.01
My favorite Mariah album. Everything is enjoyable! I can't believe I've listened to an album and liked all the songs in it. A definite winner. I like EVERYTHING in this album. Get it!
MTV UnpluggedMTV Unplugged by Mariah Carey
Buy used from: $0.01
So this is, far as I know, her only solo live album. And it's a definite must for anyone's Mariah Carey collection! Mariah live? It has to be a winner, and it certainly is. I usually skip I'll Be There but that's just me. Emotions ("12 Club Mix, studio version in Remixes), moving performance of If It's Over, Someday, Vision of Love, Make It Happen, and the cherry: Can't Let Go. Get this.
Music BoxMusic Box by Mariah Carey
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $0.01
I can't say I like this album much. Too much mid-tempos that are hard to tell apart from one another (the usual critique). I'd say skip it, but there are a few good songs. Not astounding, but good. Get it for Dreamlover, Now that I Know, Never Forget You, and I've Been Thinking About You. I skip the other ones.
Merry ChristmasMerry Christmas by Mariah Carey
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $3.50
Instant hit! Get it. Don't argue with me. It's holiday music and Mariah does it well. All I Want Want for Christmas Is You is now a Christmas classic. O Holy Night is beautiful. Miss You Most (At Christmas Time) reminds me of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas (of course HYaMLC is much better).
DaydreamDaydream by Mariah Carey
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $0.01
This signals Mariah's progression towards more R&B, hip-hop sound. I really think Music Box was the sub par prototype of Daydream with all these mid-tempo ballads. Only difference is Daydream was much better. I think this is as good as Emotions. I'm hard-pressed to find a fault in this album. Get it!
Open ArmsOpen Arms by Mariah Carey
Buy used from: $44.92
Ok, go and check out Slipping Away from YouTube. If you like it, chances are you like the R&B Mariah. This was cut from Daydream because it was TOO R&B, lol. I say this is a great song, her best B-side ever! It's time to be a Mariah detective because this is a hard single to find for cheap. Don't get the UK single. The Australian has Slipping Away and a Spanish version of Open Arms.
ButterflyButterfly by Mariah Carey
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $0.79
So, looking at Daydream, you KNOW she's got her formula down. Which is why many critique, "All her songs sound the same." I enjoy her, that's all that matters. Even though at times her materials all intertwine. Again, no fault. Daydream simply matured. The Roof has Mariah doing story-telling well, her best I must admit.
# 1's# 1's
Buy new: $8.99 / Used from: $1.00
This is Mariah's first greatest hits compilation. Unless you're a completist fan, skip this and just get Greatest Hits. I Still Believe is a cover done right.
RainbowRainbow by Mariah Carey
Buy used from: $0.01
This one is an entity apart from Daydream and Butterfly. It's a more fun and quirky Mariah surfacing. I suppose I can say this is her definite "break up" album and it's a good one. It's a very solid work, again. Petal sets itself apart from all the rest with its unmasked honesty.
GlitterGlitter
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $2.00
Yikes! Wait a minute and stay. We all know how this era went down. Glitter was, for a while, the nail in her career's coffin. It was also just bad timing, I say. An underrated piece of work. I like this better than Music Box for sure. It's pretty much the opposite of Music Box. Doesn't work as intended, creates good mid-tempos: Lead the Way, Reflection, Never Too Far, and Twister.
Never Too Far / Hero / There For MeNever Too Far / Hero / There For Me
Buy used from: $1.03
Must Have! This is Mariah's 9/11 single, trying to help people through the rough phase with her music and with funds (All the money from its sale goes to the families of the victims of 9/11). I say it's a good gesture that went under radar because of the Glitter flop. Only two songs: the mash up of Never Too Far/Hero and There For Me. If anything get it for the great performance in There For Me.
Mariah Carey - Greatest HitsMariah Carey - Greatest Hits by Mariah Carey
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $7.37
So if you only want Mariah's hits and singles in one collection or want to explore Mariah's music, get this album. No new material, just pure hits served by Mariah through the decade.
CharmbraceletCharmbracelet by Mariah Carey
Buy new: $10.97 / Used from: $1.83
Ok, I'll say it. This is Rainbow, downgraded. Here you see her slowly getting the kinks out from the Glitter era. Still, wasn't the comeback she was hoping for. So so album. Still solid, just not amazing. You find her start making gospel music for her albums. It's a good album by itself, shrinks in comparison to past releases.
CharmbraceletCharmbracelet by Mariah Carey
This is the tour edition of Charmbracelet. It's quite limited, but if you can get your hands on this you'll know it's amazing. The extra materials on this tour edition is worth the extra money. There Goes My Heart ranks as one of her best B-side.
The RemixesThe Remixes by Mariah Carey
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $3.16
Skip this if you hate remix albums. It's really not bad. You'll appreciate this more if you're acquainted with all her material. Other than that, this remix album sounds quite generic. >.< Notable: Anytime You Need a Friend, Emotions, Fantasy, Always Be My Baby, Thank God I Found You, Honey (So So Def), Miss You, The One, and All I Want For Christmas is You
The Emancipation of Mimi - Platinum EditionThe Emancipation of Mimi - Platinum Edition by Mariah Carey
Buy new: $10.97 / Used from: $2.88
Spell it with me: C-O-M-E-B-A-C-K! Yes, if you've been cognitively sane in 2005-2006 you know this album so much so it hurts your head to hear another attempt We Belong Together. One of her best! Mimi has got her next transition down and it sound so good! The downside is too much guests and rapping (prolly was a safety net) for my taste. Platinum for DFAU, Makin' It Last All Night, and WBT Remix.
Don't Forget About UsDon't Forget About Us by Mariah Carey
Buy used from: $1.72
Okay, this is not the correct single. You should get Don't Forget About Us (Desert Storm Remix) from iTunes -- it's likely named Pt. 2 in some cases. Go YouTube the video so you know how it sounds like before you buy it. I think it's one of her best remixes. DJ Clue does well. I like it a lot.
Say Somethin'Say Somethin' by Mariah Carey
Buy used from: $8.98
I don't care for this single much, but do go to iTunes and purchase the So So Def Remix of Say Somethin'. Listen to it first if you want it. It's a good remix in my opinion.
E=MC2E=MC2 by Mariah Carey
Buy new: $10.97 / Used from: $2.00
Yeah yeah, Emancipation No. 2... except it's NOT. There are notable differences in sound and energy. tEoM is the emotional sister; E=MC^2 is the party fiend. I think it's an emotional assessment from Rainbow. Another solid Mariah. An album that lives under the shadow of its predecessor but is better sounding than tEoM. I think it's amazing. Mature but playful. I'm That Chick for the win!
