The only season with the original cast includes the 1988 pilot in the middle of the season which has a completely different D.A - Alfred Wentworth. More controversial issues occur than in later seasons.

Logan's partner Phil Cerreta is shot and survives, but decides to not be a detective any more. Enter Lenny Briscoe, perhaps the most beloved character in L&O history.

There's a new D.A. in town - Jack McCoy. There are quite a few very memorable episodes in this season and the cast has wonderful chemistry. During the last scene of the last episode, Mike Logan punches a defendant and is demoted and sent to Staten Island to walk a beat. Thus ends one of the great old cop/young cop partnerships in TV history.

Jamie Ross joins the cast as Asst. District Attorney after Claire's departure. Rey has family problems. Lenny faces compromising situations out of the past both personally and professionally.

An uncompromising look into the minds of some truly disturbing sex offenders, and focuses much more on the lives of the main characters than L&O. Christopher Meloni plays Detective Stabler, a family man who is very dedicated to his work. His partner, Detective Bensen, is herself the product of a rape. Richard Belzer reprises his role of Detective John Munch from "Homicide".

The role of Dr. Huang becomes a recurring character, thus there is a lot less of Dr. Olivet and Dr. Skoda this season. Season 3 had some of the best episodes. Particularly good is "Stolen", where Munch & Cragen continue an investigation originally started by the late Max Greevey from season 1 of the original Law & Order.

This year Diane Neal joins the show as ADA Casey Novak and does a great job. This season is excellent, like the others. The only bad thing I can say is that John Munch continues to have an ever decreasing role on the show.

This season offered more tension between Olivia and Elliot than any of the others and it also showed more of what made Elliot, Elliot. The show has concentrated on the character of Olivia for so long. This season gave Christopher Meloni a chance to shine more and gave him the attention he deserves.

The Ninth Year had less episodes thanks to that Writers Strike. Olivia Benson goes undercover as an inmate to try and catch a rapist. Another great episode is when Stabler's pregnant wife gets into a car accident and she gives birth right then and there.

The beginning of the Holmes & Watson like partnership of Detectives Robert Goren and Alexandria Eames. You already know who commited the crime early on. The fun is watching Goren manipulate his way to the truth.

This season is very good, but the continuity is broken up when Eames is absent from the show for a few episodes while being a surrogate mother for her sister and brother-in-law. This was a cover story for Erbe's own pregnancy.

This show only aired for 13 episodes. The plots were very complex, there was insufficient time to develop the main characters into people that the audience could connect with, and Jerry Orbach's death deprived the show of the wise-cracking Lenny Briscoe who was supposed to be a regular on the show.

This covers the years 1990-1999 with an emphasis on the first four years of the original L&O. There is much interesting insider information about those first few years of the show, but we badly need an update covering the last seven years.
