![]() | Law & Order - The First Year
Buy new: $41.49 / Used from: $19.34 The only season with the original cast includes the 1988 pilot in the middle of the season which has a completely different D.A - Alfred Wentworth. More controversial issues occur than in later seasons.
![]() | Law & Order - The Second Year
Buy new: $38.99 / Used from: $19.48 Detective Max Greevey is murdered at the beginning of the season and Phil Cerreta is Logan's new partner. There is less controversy and the ripped from the headlines format becomes more prominent.
![]() | Law and Order - The Third Year (1992-1993 Season)
Buy new: $38.99 / Used from: $19.55 Logan's partner Phil Cerreta is shot and survives, but decides to not be a detective any more. Enter Lenny Briscoe, perhaps the most beloved character in L&O history.
![]() | Law & Order - The Fourth Year (1993-1994 Season)
Buy new: $37.49 / Used from: $17.09 The beginning of the golden years of L&O IMHO. Claire Kincaid is the new ADA and Lieutenant Anita Van Buren is the detectives' new supervisor. There are more original plots this season than there had formerly been. The season finale is the last episode with Michael Moriarty as Ben Stone.
![]() | Law & Order - The Fifth Year (1994-1995 Season)
Buy new: $38.99 / Used from: $18.87 There's a new D.A. in town - Jack McCoy. There are quite a few very memorable episodes in this season and the cast has wonderful chemistry. During the last scene of the last episode, Mike Logan punches a defendant and is demoted and sent to Staten Island to walk a beat. Thus ends one of the great old cop/young cop partnerships in TV history.
![]() | Law and Order: The Sixth Year
Buy new: $41.49 / Used from: $28.98 There's a new "young cop" on the beat for the first time since the show began. This time he's a family man.
![]() | Law & Order - The Seventh Year
Jamie Ross joins the cast as Asst. District Attorney after Claire's departure. Rey has family problems. Lenny faces compromising situations out of the past both personally and professionally.
![]() | Law & Order - The Fourteenth Season (2003-04 Season)
Buy new: $41.49 / Used from: $15.29 The only reason to buy this season is that it is Lenny Briscoe's last season. The plots are OK, but it is improbable that a conservative southerner would wind up a NYC D.A. and Elizabeth Rohm is practically reading her lines from a teleprompter, and has been since season 12. The rest of the cast is still great, though.
![]() | Law & Order Special Victims Unit - The First Year
Buy new: $46.99 / Used from: $24.99 An uncompromising look into the minds of some truly disturbing sex offenders, and focuses much more on the lives of the main characters than L&O. Christopher Meloni plays Detective Stabler, a family man who is very dedicated to his work. His partner, Detective Bensen, is herself the product of a rape. Richard Belzer reprises his role of Detective John Munch from "Homicide".
![]() | Law & Order: Special Victims Unit - The Second Year
Buy new: $34.49 / Used from: $25.95 This show gets even better. This season differs from the first as not as much time is spent on the detective's families. Ice-T and Stephanie March debut in the first episode of the season as Det. Fin Tutuola and ADA Alex Cabot, respectively. Michelle Hurd leaves the show as her character quits after being relegated to desk duty since being accused of having sex with a suspect.
![]() | Law & Order Special Victims Unit - The Third Season
Buy new: $45.99 / Used from: $25.44 The role of Dr. Huang becomes a recurring character, thus there is a lot less of Dr. Olivet and Dr. Skoda this season. Season 3 had some of the best episodes. Particularly good is "Stolen", where Munch & Cragen continue an investigation originally started by the late Max Greevey from season 1 of the original Law & Order.
![]() | Law & Order: Special Victims Unit - The Fourth Year
Buy new: $38.99 / Used from: $24.23 This season follows the protocol of seasons 1-3, which is very little character growth and little to no romantic moments between any of the characters, save episode 12, Risk, in which the characters go undercover and there is a few brief romantic moments between Benson/Stabler.
![]() | Law & Order: Special Victims Unit - The Fifth Year
Buy new: $45.99 / Used from: $23.79 This year Diane Neal joins the show as ADA Casey Novak and does a great job. This season is excellent, like the others. The only bad thing I can say is that John Munch continues to have an ever decreasing role on the show.
![]() | Law & Order: Special Victims Unit - Year Six
Buy new: $37.49 / Used from: $26.30 This season SVU won its first Emmy Award - Guest Performer - Amanda Plummer and receive two additional nominations Best Actress - Mariska Hargitay (her first and she wins next season) and Guest Performer - Angela Lansbury.
![]() | Law & Order: Special Victims Unit - The Seventh Year
Buy new: $41.49 / Used from: $31.92 This season offered more tension between Olivia and Elliot than any of the others and it also showed more of what made Elliot, Elliot. The show has concentrated on the character of Olivia for so long. This season gave Christopher Meloni a chance to shine more and gave him the attention he deserves.
![]() | Law & Order: Special Victims Unit - The Eighth Year
Buy new: $38.49 / Used from: $34.99 This season is a lot about family and how important it is as the show gets in touch with the characters and tries to introduce a few new ones. Everyone knows that drunk drivers are out there and that teenagers drink but hardly anyone shows any new footage and one of the episodes really puts all that into perspective.
![]() | Law & Order: Special Victims Unit - The Ninth Year
Buy new: $34.49 / Used from: $28.87 The Ninth Year had less episodes thanks to that Writers Strike. Olivia Benson goes undercover as an inmate to try and catch a rapist. Another great episode is when Stabler's pregnant wife gets into a car accident and she gives birth right then and there.
![]() | Law & Order: Special Victims Unit - The Tenth Year
Buy new: $37.99 / Used from: $31.08 SVU makes the decade mark, with its parent show L&O at nineteen, it is only the second TV Franchise (Cheers/Frasier) in which a show and its spin-off both reach the decade mark.
![]() | Law & Order Criminal Intent - The First Year
Buy new: $41.49 / Used from: $9.99 The beginning of the Holmes & Watson like partnership of Detectives Robert Goren and Alexandria Eames. You already know who commited the crime early on. The fun is watching Goren manipulate his way to the truth.
![]() | Law & Order Criminal Intent - The Second Year
Buy new: $38.99 / Used from: $19.50 To me, this is the season where the series comes into its own. Plus, Goren is given a Moriarty-like foil to complement his Holmes-like detective style.
![]() | Law & Order Criminal Intent - The Third Year
Buy new: $38.99 / Used from: $20.45 This season is very good, but the continuity is broken up when Eames is absent from the show for a few episodes while being a surrogate mother for her sister and brother-in-law. This was a cover story for Erbe's own pregnancy.
![]() | Law & Order: Criminal Intent - Season Four
Buy new: $40.99 / Used from: $40.79 Chris Noth is added to the team as Mike Logan, the same character he played in the first five years of the original Law & Order. Age has mellowed him some.
![]() | Law & Order: Trial By Jury - The Complete Series
Buy new: $19.99 / Used from: $7.69 This show only aired for 13 episodes. The plots were very complex, there was insufficient time to develop the main characters into people that the audience could connect with, and Jerry Orbach's death deprived the show of the wise-cracking Lenny Briscoe who was supposed to be a regular on the show.
![]() | Conviction: The Complete Series
Buy new: $41.49 / Used from: $4.97 The meat of these 13 episodes is in the fight to lock up rapists and murderers, but the heart of the show is in the private lives of the young attorneys. The problem was too many characters and not enough nobility to go around. The ADA's seem petty and self-serving, especially when compared with the hard-hitting, moralistic, take-no-prisoners Jack McCoy of the original L&O.
![]() | Law & Order: The Unofficial Companion -- Updated and Expanded by Kevin Courrier
Buy used from: $0.01 This covers the years 1990-1999 with an emphasis on the first four years of the original L&O. There is much interesting insider information about those first few years of the show, but we badly need an update covering the last seven years.
![]() | Law and Order: Deadline: An Original Law and Order Novel by J. Madison Davis
Buy used from: $208.93 One case from beginning to end, just like the series, except with more personal details of the regular characters. It features the 2003-4 cast of characters. In other words, Lenny Briscoe is still with the force in this one.
![]() | True Stories of Law & Order: The Real Crimes Behind the Best Episodes of the Hit TV Show by Kevin Dwyer
Buy new: $10.20 / Used from: $0.25 25 true stories on which episodes of Law & Order are apparently based. Includes the Liverpool murder of two-year old James Bulger by two 10-year old boys, the story of Jack Abbott, protege of Norman Mailer, who stabbed actor Richard Adan to death over the use of a diner restroom; & the murder of Gulf War vet Anthony Riggs, killed by his wife and brother-in-law over life insurance.
![]() | True Stories of Law & Order: SVU by Kevin Dwyer
Buy new: $10.08 / Used from: $4.94 25 fascinating cases with details you normally don't find when researching the particular crime. Done and solved crimes like the BTK killer are widely known about, but the authors go into side details that most writers forget to cover in 20-page tales. There's even a crime the show only lightly touched upon--the scizophrenic man shoving someone in front of a train.
![]() | Homicide: Life on the Street - The Complete Series (repackaged)
Buy new: $59.99 / Used from: $99.99 Although not strictly part of the Law & Order franchise, the two shows did three crossover stories starting in L&O season 6. Also, this show introduces the character of John Munch who began playing the part on this show in January 1993 and then began playing the same role on L&O SVU in the fall of 1999.
