Dr. No (James Bond) [Blu-ray]Dr. No (James Bond) [Blu-ray]
Buy new: $19.99 / Used from: $12.55
A slow moving, yet solid beginning to the franchise. Sean Connery is great as a cold, merciless James Bond. The plot is good, but confusing at times, and the cinematography, especially at Dr. No's island is great. Ursela Andress is perfect as the first Bond girl 8.5/10
From Russia with Love (James Bond) [Blu-ray]From Russia with Love (James Bond) [Blu-ray]
Buy new: $10.49 / Used from: $9.97
Slow build-up and what feels like a rushed conclusion. The helicopter chase is great, as is the fight scene on the train, and Connery still plays a great Bond. Q makes his first appearance with a tricked out briefcase for 007. I did not care for the Bond girl in this film. 8.5/10
Goldfinger [Blu-ray]Goldfinger [Blu-ray]
Buy new: $19.99 / Used from: $18.80
One of the quintessential Bond films. A great Bond (Connery) a great Villain (Goldfinger) with a great henchman (Oddjob) and a great Bond girl with a trashy name (Pussy Galore). The plot is much more unique than the average Bond flick. 9/10
Thunderball (James Bond) [Blu-ray]Thunderball (James Bond) [Blu-ray]
Buy new: $19.99 / Used from: $12.03
Connery is still at his best. More action than any of the previous films. Great underwater cinematography, that gets tiresome sometimes. The plot is nothing special, with a, for the most part, forgetable villain and Bond girl (not saying she is ugly by any means). Great ending though. 8/10
You Only Live TwiceYou Only Live Twice
Buy new: $11.99 / Used from: $10.99
More action than any of its predecessors. The opening scene is great, and the helicopter fight scene is fantastic, as is the rooftop chase/fight. Connery still owns the role, but this film has terrible Bond girls. It is also the source of most of the jokes in the Austin Powers films 8/10
On Her Majesty's Secret Service - 2-Disc Ultimate EditionOn Her Majesty's Secret Service - 2-Disc Ultimate Edition
Buy used from: $26.99
I tried to like this movie, but I just couldn't. Lazenby looks the part of Bond, maybe even more so than Connery, but he just doesn't have the acting ability of his predecessor. It doesn't help that this film is almost two and a half hours long. 5/10
Diamonds Are ForeverDiamonds Are Forever
Buy used from: $21.98
You can tell Connery is getting a little tired of the roll in this one. He just is not as believable as he was in his previous outings. If he had made this film in his prime, it would be one of my favorites. Tiffany Case and Plenty O'Toole are great as the Bond girls. The plot is good, and the attack on the oil rig is great. 8/10
Live and Let Die (James Bond) [Blu-ray]Live and Let Die (James Bond) [Blu-ray]
Buy new: $19.99 / Used from: $8.91
Roger Moore is good as a less serious Bond (however, I prefer Connery's darker portrayal). I did not really care for Solitaire as a Bond girl, and Q's absence hurts the film. I wasn't a big fan of the Bond vs. voodoo drug lord plot. 7.5/10
The Man with the Golden Gun [Blu-ray]The Man with the Golden Gun [Blu-ray]
Buy new: $20.99 / Used from: $22.10
Better than Moore's first outing. Goodnight is an attractive Bond girl, and Scaramanga is a great villain with a great henchman in Nick Nack. Good story with great cinematography. 8/10
The Spy Who Loved MeThe Spy Who Loved Me
Buy new: $11.99 / Used from: $4.37
Moore's best. The plot is pretty good and it introduces the audience to Jaws. Barbarah Bach is great as Agent Triple X (definately one of the best Bond girls). Plenty of action as well. 8.5/10
Moonraker [Blu-ray]Moonraker [Blu-ray]
Buy new: $19.99 / Used from: $13.17
Great opening sequence....and that is about it. Lame villain, stereotypical plot, and an average Bond girl. Everyone seems really bored during this film...even during the action sequences. 6/10
For Your Eyes Only (James Bond) [Blu-ray]For Your Eyes Only (James Bond) [Blu-ray]
Buy new: $19.99 / Used from: $9.76
This one has got a great Cold War era plot. However, Moore is starting to get too old to believably portray 007. I aslo did not care for the Bond girls in this one. Some memorable action scenes. 7.5/10
OctopussyOctopussy
Buy new: $11.99 / Used from: $5.94
One of the best opening sequences in the franchise, the Cold War plot is pretty good, and Octopussy is a pretty good Bond girl. Moore is way too old to still be playing a secret agent. This is also the most goofy and campy film in the series. There is some good action on top of a train and plane, but its not very believable due to Moore's age. 7/10
A View to a KillA View to a Kill
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $8.41
Christopher Walken plays one of the most evil villains in the franchise. Moore was in his late 50s when this film was made. If it was made when he was younger, it would have been better. One of the Bond girls in attractive, but annoying and the other is just plain scary. Aside from the chase in the fire truck, Walken is pretty much the only notable aspect of this film. 6.5/10
The Living DaylightsThe Living Daylights
Buy new: $11.49 / Used from: $3.99
This is the first James Bond film I ever saw. It starts off with a bang and ends with a bang, it does, however, drag a bit in the middle. Dalton is great as Bond. He plays 007 closer to how Connery played him than Moore. The Bond girl is attractive, the Cold War plot is great, the villains are pretty typical though. 8/10
Licence to Kill [Blu-ray]Licence to Kill [Blu-ray]
Buy new: $20.99 / Used from: $16.29
A lot of people don't like this one because it is the least "Bond-like" film in the franchise. I can't argue that, but in my opinion that makes it even better. This is the darkest and most violent film in the series. It is a shame Dalton could not have made more films before the studio got involved in legal troubles. Q gets a larger role and the Bond girl is great. 9/10
GoldenEyeGoldenEye
Buy new: $12.99 / Used from: $4.07
Brosnan plays a great Bond, for the most part serious along the lines of Connery and Dalton with the occasional injection of humor akin to Moore's performances. Sean Bean is great as the traitor 006 and is one of the greatest villains in the franchise. Onatopp is a great henchwoman and Natalya is one of my favortie Bond girls. 9/10
Tomorrow Never DiesTomorrow Never Dies
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $5.63
Not as good as Goldeneye. This film is less serious, and the plot is a little out there. It has a great cast of villains, but I was not a fan of the Bond girls in this one. Brosnan is still great, and this film has one of the best opening sequences in the franchise. This is also one of the most action packed films in the series. 8/10
The World is Not Enough [Blu-ray]The World is Not Enough [Blu-ray]
Buy new: $19.99 / Used from: $15.63
Brosnan is still great, bringing a little more vulnerability to the role in this film. The plot is good with a little twist, good villains and plenty of action. Denise Richards may not be much in terms of acting, but she makes up for it in looks. This film does drag a little in places. The average story, and some sloppy editing keep this from being as good as Goldeneye. 8/10
Die Another Day [Blu-ray]Die Another Day [Blu-ray]
Buy new: $10.49 / Used from: $8.35
Definately the biggest Bond film. Sadly, bigger in this case does not equal better. Brosnan seems pretty bored with the roll by this point. The plot is simply a rehash of past plots, the villains are lame and in some instances laughable. Halle Berry is hot, but thats about it, her character did not do much for me. 7/10
Casino Royale (Collector's Edition + BD Live) [Blu-ray]Casino Royale (Collector's Edition + BD Live) [Blu-ray]
Buy new: $24.99 / Used from: $13.72
This is a gritty reinvention of the franchise, and I love it. Daniel Craig is definatly one of the best, and most believable Bonds. Changes just the right amount to improve over the previous films, but maintain the signature "Bond" feel. Great story, an attractive Bond girl, and plenty of action. The opening scene is amazing, and the foot chase is probably the best in cinematic history. 9.5/10
Quantum of Solace [Blu-ray]Quantum of Solace [Blu-ray]
Buy new: $19.99 / Used from: $9.77
Good, but not as good as Casino Royale. The action is pretty front-loaded, and the conclusion seems anti-climatic. Craig is great as a revenge obsessed Bond. The Bond girl was decent. Some of the fight cinematography reminded me of the Bourne films. The scene in the theater was awesome. 8.5/10
