My favorite Hong Kong film. I never tire of it. Maggie Cheung and Joey Wong are fantastic in this trippy zen tale from Tsui Hark. Ravishing.

One of the great "Wire-fu" movies of the early 90's. Plot? Who cares! Drink it up! Features Brigitte Lin's most loved performance as Asia the Invinvible.

 | The East Is Red: Swordsman III (HD Remastered Edition) DVD
Buy used from: $100.06 The plot is even harder to follow than the first two films but oh, the visuals! The sequence that begins with with Brigitte Lin and Joey Wong kissing and ends with a white Dove flying out of a monk's mouth is astonishing.

Buy used from: $36.00 The best category III HK film ever made. Influenced countless other "period" sex films. Unfortunately, they don't make 'em like this anymore.

Buy new: $17.99 / Used from: $5.51 Great Shaw Brothers film from the 70's. The look of this film is way above what the studio was putting out at the time. Great action, acting, and intrigue. Lily Ho is terrific.

Buy new: $26.99 / Used from: $14.00 Wong Kar Wai's best film. A late night adrenaline rush through the neon lit back alleys of Hong Kong. Some of Christopher Doyle's best camera work. Great music. Sublime.

Another Amy Yip classic. Silly and preposterous but never a dull moment. Like others of this era, it's both sleazy and charmingly naive.

Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $10.00 Old school kung fu classic from the Shaw Brothers. The action is furious and way over the top. The makers of modern cgi laden fare should study this one.

Buy new: $12.49 / Used from: $2.58 Thought by some to be the greatest martial arts film ever made. King Hu's classic for the Shaw Brothers just happens to have a female lead: Cheng Pei-pei.

Buy used from: $3.19 My favorite Jackie Chan title (okay, maybe tied with Project A-2) which benefits greatly from a fearless Michelle Yeoh fresh out of her premature "retirement". She rides a motorcycle off a ramp onto a moving train for f*cks sake!
Avoid the US DVD and get the HK version if you can.

Buy used from: $49.98 In my opinion this is where it all began. King Hu's direction is meticulous and you will see these scenes copied in countless martial arts films to follow. One of Polly Shang Kwan's first roles.

Buy new: $17.99 / Used from: $2.99 Tsui Hark produced this remake of the King Hu classic and it's damn good. The last 20 minutes is about as good as you'll ever see in a martial arts film. With Maggie Cheung, Brigitte Lin, Donnie Yen, and Tony Leung Ka-Fai.
