![]() | To Mega Therion by Celtic Frost
Buy new: $11.98 / Used from: $7.09 A true black metal classic, "Circle Of The Tyrants" and "Jewel Throne" are where it's at.
![]() | Human by Death
Buy new: $12.98 / Used from: $6.98 Death's last outright raw slab of death metal, but shows significant signs of progression. "Flattening Of Emotions" is one of my favorite Death songs, and "Cosmic Sea" is a tremendous instrumental. "Together As One" and "Suicide Machine" are amazing too.
![]() | Pyromania by Def Leppard
Buy new: $12.99 / Used from: $4.99 One of the albums that helped bring metal to the masses. It's true that the boys were starting to push more towards pop-metal, but this album was about as raw as that stuff got. Outside of the three top-ten hits, "Too Late For Love" is one of my favorite DL songs.
![]() | The Last in Line by Dio
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $2.90 Dio's second solo effort is another classic metal masterpiece! The biggest highlight of this album is undoubtedly "One Night In The City."
![]() | Black Clouds & Silver Linings (3 CD Special Edition) by Dream Theater
Buy new: $20.99 / Used from: $17.34 Dream Theater's latest CD is not as strong as some of their previous outputs. One song is merely rehashes of old ones (on purpose).
![]() | No Prayer for the Dying by Iron Maiden
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $8.04 I had to buy it because it's Iron Maiden. Half the album is phenomenal, but half of it is passable at best.
![]() | Fear of the Dark by Iron Maiden
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $8.96 The most underrated Maiden album in history. A masterpiece from front to back.
![]() | Brave New World by Iron Maiden
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $4.45 The Maiden revival began with this fantastic release. Songs like "The Wicker Man," "Out Of The Silent Planet" and the title track simply own.
![]() | Escape by Journey
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $4.96 Nothin' like some good old fashioned fist-pumping arena rock to make your day brighter! Songs like "Don't Stop Believing," "Stone In Love," "Who's Crying Now," and "Lay It Down" are what it's all about.
![]() | Frontiers by Journey
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $2.93 Another gem of pure adrenaline fist-pumping arena rock from Steve, Neal and company. Gotta love "Separate Ways" and "Send Her My Love," plus "Faithfully" is one of the all-time great ballads, syrupy as it might be. Outside of radio hits, "Edge Of The Blade" is a standout.
![]() | Epica by Kamelot
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $6.48 Kamelot's 2003 album is the first part of a monster 2-part concept album. Its sequel is superior, but Kamelot help prove why they are the best power metal band in America, bar none, with this effort. "Center Of The Universe" and "Descent Of The Archangel" are fantastic.
![]() | In the Court of the Crimson King by King Crimson
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $9.36 Trippy early prog-rock classic. "21st Century Schizoid Man" absolutely rips.
![]() | Gretchen Goes to Nebraska by King's X
Buy new: $8.96 / Used from: $1.47 A masterpiece from this very fine progressive metal trio. The opening trio of songs as well as "Mission" are truly incredible.
![]() | Kiss by Kiss
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $3.04 The classic debut from the loudest band in the land! "Strutter," "Nothin' To Lose," "Cold Gin" and "Deuce" are what it's all about.
![]() | Destroyer by Kiss
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $3.80 Kiss' classic 1976 breakthrough smash. This one's got "Detroit Rock City," "God Of Thunder," "Flaming Youth," and "Shout It Out Loud." "Beth" is a bit sappy as power ballads go, but it works.
![]() | Rock and Roll Over by Kiss
Buy new: $8.99 / Used from: $3.19 The loudest band in the land returns with their fifth album, less than 8 months after the breakthrough smash Destroyer. "I Want You," "Calling Dr. Love," "Baby Driver" and "Making Love" are some of the finest heavy songs they have released, while "Hard Luck Woman" really proves how awesome drummer Peter Criss was on vocals - and shows a less sappy soft side than "Beth."
![]() | Love Gun by Kiss
Buy new: $8.99 / Used from: $5.29 KISS' classic 1977 album. By this time they had become the world's biggest band and it would not be long before fame ruined them, but here they produce some of their best songs. including the title track, "I Stole Your Love," "Christine Sixteen," "Shock Me," and "Hooligan."
![]() | Peace Sells...But Who's Buying? by Megadeth
Buy new: $8.99 / Used from: $4.76 Early Megadeth with improved production and musicianship over the debut. "The Conjuring" is my favorite early Megadeth song, and the title track, "Wake Up Dead," and "I Ain't Superstitious" are pretty sweet too.
![]() | So Far, So Good...So What! by Megadeth
Buy new: $8.99 / Used from: $5.50 The third Megadeth album is probably the rawest one, and with songs like "Mary Jane," "In My Darkest Hour," "Liar," and their awesome cover of "Anarchy In The U.K." it doesn't disappoint!
![]() | The Warning by Queensrÿche
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $5.48 Queensryche's full-length debut is often overlooked, and with songs on it like "En Force" and "Take Hold Of The Flame" it's very hard to understand just why!
![]() | Out of the Cellar by Ratt
Buy new: $5.98 / Used from: $2.19 This... is hair metal! No bones about it, this album is just raw, in-your-face HAIR METAL at its very finest! "Wanted Man," "Round And Round," "Lack Of Communication," you just can't go wrong!
![]() | Rush by Rush
Buy new: $8.99 / Used from: $4.57 Rush's debut, on which they sound a pretty fair amount like Led Zeppelin oddly enough. You'd never even think it was Rush hearing songs like "Finding My Way" or "Working Man," but there's no denying their awesomeness.
![]() | A Farewell to Kings by Rush
Buy new: $8.99 / Used from: $3.79 The raw Rush era ends and they take baby steps towards incorporating keyboards and synths into their music. "Closer To The Heart" will never leave your head once you hear it.
![]() | Hold Your Fire by Rush
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $4.99 After their synth craze peaked, they mellow out on the mellotrons and stick to a lighter sound that is truer to their roots. "Force Ten" is one of my all time favorite Rush songs, as is "Time Stand Still."
![]() | Roll the Bones by Rush
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $3.48 The last Rush album to feature the aforementioned sound, and a real masterpiece. "Dreamline," "Roll The Bones," and "Neurotica" are the big highlights.
![]() | Wheels of Steel by Saxon
Buy new: $14.98 / Used from: $27.45 Saxon's breakthrough sophomore effort, a slice of pure NWOBHM greatness that is horribly underrated. "(747) Strangers In The Night" and the title track are just monster songs.
![]() | Blackout by Scorpions
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $4.72 The Scorpions start to break into the mainstream here with the smash hit "No One Like You," and other killer tracks are present like the title track, "Can't Live Without You," "Now" and "Arizona."
![]() | Skid Row by Skid Row
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $1.51 One of the last bands of the hair metal era, and this is by far one of the best albums to come out of there. It's obvious that their ballad "I Remember You" was written to get the attention of MTV, but it drowns out killer songs like "Rattlesnake Shake" and "Big Guns."
![]() | Cat Scratch Fever by Ted Nugent
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $5.85 Ted Nugent's breakthrough, and with the title track, "Wang Dang Sweet Poontang," "Death By Misadventure" and "Out Of Control" it comes as no great surprise!
![]() | Manic Frustration by Trouble
Buy used from: $19.95 Cost a pretty penny but I managed to get my hands on this sludge-metal classic. Clearly an influence from early Sabbath and Hendrix. A rare gem. Just give "Come Touch The Sky" and "'Scuse Me" a listen.
![]() | Van Halen by Van Halen
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $4.29 The classic debut from Eddie, Alex and co. features some of the finest fretwork of the time. "Jamie's Crying" and "Feel Your Love Tonight" are my absolute favorite VH songs.
![]() | Van Halen II by Van Halen
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $3.50 Van Halen's aptly titled sophomore effort continues the sleaze-rock awesomeness right where their debut left off, with killer tunes like "Dance The Night Away," "Bottoms Up," and "Beautiful Girls."
![]() | Fair Warning by Van Halen
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $5.35 The darkest album of Van Halen, and their worst selling. Quite a shame, especially with tunes like "Mean Street," "Sinner's Swing" and "Unchained."
![]() | 1984 by Van Halen
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $3.65 Van Halen's final studio recording with Dave on vocals, this album brought their success to new heights. Certainly an interesting mix of music, with heavy rockers like "Hot For Teacher" and "Panama," synth driven rockers like "Jump" and "I'll Wait," and cleaner-sounding stuff like "Top Jimmy."
![]() | 5150 by Van Halen
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $1.08 The first of 4 VH discs to feature vocalist Sammy Hagar, formerly of Montrose and his own band. Many say that they became nothign more than a sappy pop-rock group with him at the front, but this is far from true; in spite of the ballads "Why Can't This Be Love," "Love Walks In," and "Dreams" (which are actually quite strong), "Get Up" is the heaviest VH song ever.
![]() | Fragile by Yes
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $7.49 Another early prog-rock gem, "Roundabout" is among the finest songs to come out of the early years of the movement.
![]() | Eliminator by ZZ Top
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $1.81 ZZ Top's 1983 album is another example of a band tending towards a more pop-friendly sound to get noticed by MTV and succeeding marvelously. "Sharp Dressed Man," "Give Me All Your Loving," "Legs," and "I Got The Six" are the big highlights.
