I show excerpts from part 1, 'The Origins of Yoga' (on the Indus Valley civilization, the Vedas, the Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita, and the Yoga Sutra), part 2, 'Branches of Yoga' (including bhakti, jnana, karma, raja, and hatha yoga), and part 3, 'Yoga's Passage from East to West.' (Part 4 is 'Modern Yoga,' and part 5 is 'Yoga as Therapy.')

A 5 1/2 hour production of the storyline of the battle between the Pandavas and Kauravas from the Mahabharata (one of the great Indian epics, of which the Bhagavad Gita is a part), featuring an international cast. Amazon reviewers mostly love it or hate it.

I've looked for a picture book like this--with big, colorful, traditional images of Hindu deities--and still haven't found one, but this calendar serves the purpose well.

As we were reading the Bhagavad Gita in my college course, it was interesting to read the corresponding parts of this children's version to my class and see which parts of the story were highlighted and which were completely skipped.

This 90-minute documentary tells the traditional story of the Buddha and includes information about life in northern India at the time. Too long and slow to show the whole thing. I show excerpts in addition to or instead of showing pictures from the book above, and I use some of the brief commentaries by Thich Nhat Hanh (in the "extras"): on the Buddha, karma, and nirvana.
