Top 10 Movies Based on a TV Show

The Brady Bunch MovieThe Brady Bunch Movie
Buy new: $11.49 / Used from: $3.49
The very idea of making a modern BRADY BUNCH seems like a bad idea. So putting the perfect Bradys in the not-so-perfect present was the only way to go, and a brilliant one at that. The entire Brady clan is perfectly cast (Christine Taylor as Marcia is perhaps the best of the bunch... oh dear), and it even has some Brady cameos.
Starsky & Hutch (Widescreen Edition)Starsky & Hutch (Widescreen Edition)

This film took a similar approach as the BRADY BUNCH by satirizing itself. However, the show was more of a drama, while this is an outright comedy, of course. Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson always work well together and were a great choice, and Vince Vaughn, Fred Williamson, and Snoop Dogg do their jobs just as well (then there's Will Ferrell... hmm).
Addams Family ValuesAddams Family Values

Yeah, this is mostly based on the comic strip, but who cares? I chose the sequel over the original because it's just so much funnier. The cast that made the first funny has returned, and Joan Cusack, Peter MacNicol, Christine Baranski, and David Krumholtz supply more outlandish characters for our enjoyment.
The Naked Gun - From the Files of Police Squad! The Naked Gun - From the Files of Police Squad!
Buy new: $9.98 / Used from: $0.97
Yes, indeed, this comic gem is in fact based on the ill-fated POLICE SQUAD!, which lasted 6 episodes (only 4 aired). Jim Abrahams, David Zucker, & Jerry Zucker (of AIRPLANE! fame) turn their little show that failed into one of the most popular (and funniest) comedies around. Remember when Leslie Nielsen was funny?
DragnetDragnet
Buy used from: $5.73
I'm probably in the minority here, but Dan Aykroyd and Tom Hanks are pitch perfect as Joe Friday (nephew of the Friday we know and love) and Pep (friendships start with first names) Streebeck, mismatched cops who bust the P.A.G.A.N. cult taking over the City of Angels. One of my favorite comedies.
Wayne's WorldWayne's World
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $1.01
Besides THE BLUES BROTHERS (which really achieved more fame later), this is the best SNL movie to date, and in my opinion, Wayne Campbell is Mike Myers' best character. Dana Carvey is also at his best as Garth Algar, Wayne's clueless best friend and accomplice in all sorts of crazy schemes. Plus, there's Ed O'Neill as the craziest donut store owner ever.
The Simpsons Movie (Widescreen Edition)The Simpsons Movie (Widescreen Edition)
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $0.87
They did it, folks. We knew that the show could never get to be as funny as it used to be, and we also knew that no matter what, the movie could never live up to 18 years of expectations. Well, the movie is undeniably very, very funny, and in my opinion is just as good as the best seasons of the show ever were.
Borat - Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (Widescreen Edition)Borat - Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (Widescreen Edition)
Buy new: $10.49 / Used from: $0.01
Yes, DA ALI G SHOW was the British gem that introduced Sacha Baron Cohen's hopelessly clueless reporter Borat Sagdiyev, who may be a racist, sexist, and all-around bad person, but he's nothing compared to the closet racists, sexists, and all-around bad people he tricks into revealing their true nature. Not so nice!
Strange BrewStrange Brew
Buy new: $8.99 / Used from: $2.25
Unless there's a Count Floyd movie out there that I'm unaware of, this is the only movie to come out of Second City TV, but boy is it funny. Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas play Bob and Doug McKenzie, a pair of Canadian "hosers" who find that something's rotten at the Elsinore brewery where they've gotten jobs. See that? A Hamlet reference in a film "based" on Hamlet.
South Park - Bigger, Longer & UncutSouth Park - Bigger, Longer & Uncut
Buy new: $8.99 / Used from: $0.19
I have seen few episodes of SOUTH PARK, and the ones I have seen vary in quality and era (i.e. I've seen mostly early and very recent episodes), but this movie is very, very funny. Not as offensive in this day and age as it was back then (the new episodes make up for that), but no less hilarious.
