This was the first published of this series, and is the best in my mind. It tells the story of a young Elizabeth, struggling to be close to her father and surviving court life in the 16th century.

A sad, thoughtful, and insightful look into the changes modern life makes into the traditions of India and one young woman in particular. I don't recommend the Russian historical novel ("Angel on the Square") that Whelan wrote. It is not nearly the caliber of this one.

The story of hilarious, mischievous, and trouble-making Mary "Jacky" Faber, as she disguises herself as a ship's boy in order to escape the mean streets of London around 1800. It is a light, hilarious adventure. Jacky is the hero, but makes no attempt to hide her flaws.
