Jazz guitar wizard Pat Martino lays out the best treatment of Benny Golson's "Along Came Betty" this side of Buhaina. A blazing and amazing performance and the drum support from Sherman Ferguson is fabulous and hard to imagine.

Master guitarist Bobby Broom has cranked up a winner of a guitar trio recording. "Wichita Lineman" gets a wonderful latin treatment that totally works, making me wonder why no one ever thought of this approach before. Great performance by Sonny Rollins' 'go to' guitarist.

From his funk and groove period, this live set by Grant Green has amazing drive, soul, and power. The best of the best is "Let The Music Take Your Mind" with some great guitar, sax, and some superlative, hot drumming. Also "Time To Remember": great mellow song. I just re-bought both from Amazon's MP3 store as single tracks: pricey but worth it to re-visit these songs.

The Joe Beck Trio (with bassist Mark Egan and the dynamic drummer Danny Gottlieb) in one of Mr Beck's finest and possibly his final recording. If you have never heard him, now's the time!!!! "Just Friends" is a great performance.

Wes Montgomery's trio with Wynton Kelly in a superb live recording at the Half Note club. Tadd Dameron's "If You Could See Me Now" is both beautiful and swinging. Wes made many great recordings and this is one of them and Wes always played 'hotter' when recorded "live".

Virtuoso guitarist and blues-belter Johnny Winter has cranked up another scorcher with Volume 3 of his Bootleg series. Robert Johnson's venerable "Stones In My Pass Way" is Johnny and his steel guitar alone in a mesmerizing, heartfelt performance that seems to stun the audience.

Brazilian acoustical guitarist Bola Sete is caught in this double recording in one CD with pianist Vince Guaraldi live at the El Matador club. The seven minute performance of Horace Silver's "Moon Rays" is a masterpiece of two empathetic jazz musicians at the top of their form.

'Tap master' Stanley Jordan plays the guitar much like the keyboard of a piano producing an idiomatic sound. "The Lady In My Life" is a powerful performance that is beautiful and soulful but bears no resemblance to the Michael Jackson approach.

The late Emily Remler was another tragic jazz player who passed away far too young and unexpectedly, but her art will last forever and it's a particular favorite of mine. "Around The Bend" is a special performance that demands to be heard. Emily Remler-forever in our hearts & thoughts.

Joe Pass in a terrific performance of "Autumn Leaves" in support and in solo behind Sarah Vaughn who scats the entire song at light speed, along side Sir Roland Hanna on piano, Andy Simpkins on bass and Harold Jones on drums. Great players shine BRIGHTER in great company!! You've got to hear this performance by these jazz masters. Joe Pass is too much!!
