![]() | Buffy The Vampire Slayer - Collector's Set (40 discs)
Buy new: $119.49 / Used from: $123.01 Every Buffy episode emphasizes magic and the supernatural. One of the first episodes in the first season involved witchcraft specifically (the cheerleader and her mom). And of course Willow and Tara. I find the entire Buffy series is aging well. The episodes are still by and large enjoyable and compelling. This was TV at its finest.

![]() | Practical Magic (Snap Case)
Buy new: $5.99 / Used from: $3.11 One of my all time favorite movies. Who wouldn't want to be one of those beautiful witches, live in that gorgeous white Victorian house by the ocean, grow herbs, eat brownies for breakfast, drink midnight maragaritas, and "fall in love as often as you can!" That's the life to which I aspire.

![]() | Aquamarine
Buy new: $10.49 / Used from: $0.24 One of my daughter's favorite movies. Love the magic overtones when the girls cast their summoning spell and throw the popcorn over their shoulders during the big storm. The characters, setting, story are charming and ideal for teens and pre-teens - as well as adults. I want to live in the house on the beach. I want to be the cool marine biologist mom or her lucky daughter.

![]() | The Witches of Eastwick (Keepcase)
Buy new: $9.49 / Used from: $2.98 I love parts of this movie but could have left out the huge section seemingly devoted to vomiting cherry stems and violent falls. Beyond disgusting. However, if you do lots of fast forwarding, the girls night scene with the margaritas and Cheez Whiz and talking about men is precious. Susan Sarandon with the jar of pickles in the grocery store, with the cello going up in flames...priceless.

![]() | Merlin
Buy used from: $6.99 This made-for-TV show is excellent. Sam Neill makes a terrific Merlin and is accompanied by a bewitching trio - Isabella Rosselini as Nimue, Helena Bonham Carter as Morgan le Fey, and Miranda Richardson as Queen Mab. All three are spectacular. It's a feel good family movie that is exciting, spooky, compelling, stunningly beautiful, it has everything anyone could want in a movie.

![]() | Excalibur
Buy new: $5.79 / Used from: $1.19 Gory grail search yucky but love Helen Mirren as Morgana (Merlin - Morgana dynamic - speak the charm of making) and Cherie Lunghi as Guinevere. Atmospheric scenery, lady of the lake, hair and costuming for Morgana and Guinevere. Patchwork dress Guinevere wears to her rendezvous with Lancelot. As a teen - recorded audio off TV (before VCRs) and played tapes in bed at night to memorize dialogue.

![]() | Chocolat (Miramax Collector's Series)
Buy new: $11.99 / Used from: $4.18 Not overtly magical but imbued with magic. I identify with atheist single mom Vianne with young daughter Anouk (about my daughter's age) who falls for Johnny Depp (who wouldn't) - he's even my age. Love fixing up the shop and the chocolate scenes. Also Lena Olin dancing on the boat and strutting her stuff as the new bar owner. I wonder how many women opened chocolate shops after seeing this movie.
|
![]() | Babette's Feast
Buy new: $11.99 / Used from: $6.99 Somewhat like Chocolat in that there is no magic here, but magic in many of the scenes, particularly the cooking and eating of the feast - amontillado and "les cailles en sarcophages" anyone? An oustanding movie that I have enjoyed many times and look forward to seeing again soon.

![]() | Harry Potter Years 1-5 (Full-Screen Edition)
Buy new: $27.49 / Used from: $21.48 I guess no discussion of magic can omit Harry Potter. By and large enjoyable with fun and sometimes intense magic scenes - love Hermione fixing Harry's glasses, living paintings and newspaper clippings, feasts appearing on the long tables - troll-interrupted Halloween feast in first movie is particularly stunning. Can't forgive J.K. Rowling for killing off Sirius Black - my favorite character.
|
![]() | Twilight (Two-Disc Special Edition)
Buy new: $19.49 / Used from: $14.00 Brand new movie but definitely magical - appealing lead actors, cozy and stylish vampire family, charming dynamic between Bella and her dad. Where can I find a diner that serves food like that? Looks fresh and plentiful. Love the Native American elements. I like the brief Phoenix scenes - where she digs up the cactus in the picture postcard perfect Sonoran desert, apparently, her mom's backyard.
