Director Ridley Scott's well-honed talents of pacing and editing create a tense atmosphere that superbly conveys dread and fear of an unknown, unseen evil entity. In 1979, the technology didn't exist to generate a computer image of a Being from another world, and thank God, because this film would have sucked just like all these post-Alien creature features do.

Alone in an unfamiliar place with no traditional weaponry, Ripley sees the need to unite the remaining criminals, and forge a force against the creature. But things could never be that simple, and Ripley finds out she has more in common with this alien that she thinks.

The Terminator' is a classic good versus evil struggle, with little in the way of greys clouding the issue. The terminator is an unstoppable brutal remorseless killer, and it perfectly suits Arnold Schwarzenegger's limited acting abilities.

This book succeeds. Succeeds indeed but not only in this... The novel blew away nearly everyone that I know who has read it, as one of the best books we have read lately, with extremely exciting and brutal chases, gun fights, etc.

John Carpenter, more than in any other of his films, manages to create a truly believable and incredible atmosphere. When watching this film you truly get the sense of the dark,sinister, desolate surroundings, you feel and realize that these characters have no where to go...never for one second do you not believe they are stuck on a polar ice cap.

The visuals are great. The monsters from the game really come to life nicely here. There's also some cool sequences from a first person point of view that pay homage to the game. They wisely didn't get too carried away with that. And there's a lot of action and serious gore.

Book of Shadows will probably never be widely appreciated for being a wholly unconventional sequel that leaps smartly beyond most of the teen-ensemble horror maddeningly celebrated today.

I love monster movies. There’s something about watching human beings get eaten by dragons, that helps me to overlook a movie’s more obvious shortcomings. When I started seeing the early scoop on Reign of Fire, I was sure the film would be one of two things: either a really bad but FUN flick, or something nasty. Well, Reign of Fire effectively proved me wrong by ending up a pretty damn good movie

The movie is like a multi-million dollar exercise of my childhood fantasies living by the ocean. And despite the many lapses in logic, the ridiculous plot twists, and the sketchy characterizations, I found myself excited while watching.

We get a little bit of "The Thing", mixed with some "Escape From New York", with a dash of “Attack On Precinct 13” and a dose of "Prince Of Darkness". Does that sound bad? Not to me.

This movie is exciting and tension filled. The special effects were extremely well done, especially the landscapes of Mars. It's hard to believe that there are places on this planet that are that deserted and desolate, but most of the Mars scenery was shot in Australia and in Jordan.

The suspense is nerve-wracking. The acting, commendable (Ethan Hawke makes Vincent a three-dimensional, vulnerable, valiant character, capable of surprising us. Jude Law's sneering, bittersweet Jerome is at once tragic, annoying, and admirable.

Breathtaking visual effects highlight this gorgeous and thought-provoking futuristic film noir tale, with an amazing score by Vangelis. This is more than a simple detective story. It is a mutli-layered and profound film that speaks to such weighty issues as humanity, memories, dreams, and a vision of the future that changed the face of science fiction forever.

This is a wonderful film. Brilliantly film, and full of tremendous acting. How Shyamalan manages to get so many talented child-actors is beyond me but he has done it again, as the boy and girl in this give a sad, haunted quality to the film that breaks your heart as things get darker and darker for this family

Contact is likely to change a lot of perceptions -- not only about the role of humankind in the universe, but about what special effects can do for a movie when they're used in the service of a story, rather than the other way around. Contact is that rare big-budget motion picture that places ideas, characters, and plot above everything else

Escape from New York is a true classic, a thrilling action-movie with horror overtones, clever set-pieces and even a light political commentary. It marks a point in film history when both director John Carpenter and star Kurt Russell were at the top of their game and is packed with a cast of recognizable faces, who work well together to flesh out a superior script and story

A horror/sf film which will appeal to thoughtful viewers. The plot is intelligent and the film is quite different to the modern style of blitzkrieg-action style thrillers. The acting and direction are faultless. Highly recommended.

The Day the Earth Stood Still is such a marvelous film for any fan of the sci-fi genre. Set during a time when Americans feared the Red Menace, and when World War II was still very much in the hearts and minds of the American people, The Day the Earth Stood Still captures the fear and paranoia the United States had during that era and that culminated in the McCarthy hearings.

Truly the best 'pleasant surprise' I have had at the movies in a long while. I had heard nothing of this film when I saw that it was showing at the local cinema. This is one of the best films I have seen this year. It combines better action sequences than "The Matrix" with a story line that we are familiar with, but one that seems to implausible to occur.

28 Days Later does have monsters that appear on screen, so that you can be creeped out from start to finish without ever getting bored.
