Remember Clifford Irving - the guy who wrote a fake autobiography of Howard Hughes? This is his story, well-told. The best performance by Gere in YEARS. I'd forgotten what a good actor he can be.

Proof that you can make a comedy about ANY topic, as long as you have the right attitude.
Brosnan is a burned-out contract killer who forms a friendship with Kinnear and Davis - a loving suburban couple with problems of their own. By the end, you'll be rooting for Brosnan to "do the right thing" - namely, to fulfill a contract murder commitment he's made.

In my opinion, BETTER than the Humphrey Bogart-Audrey Hepburn-William Holden original. The reason: Harrison Ford is MUCH more believable as a romantic figure than Bogart was. The movie was a box-office flop, apparently because audiences were only interested in Ford as an action-adventure hero. Judge for yourself.

One of my favorite movies of the last 20 years. About a VERY smart girl (Skye) and the not-so-smart guy who loves and supports her (Cusack). The girl also has a totally believable relationship with her father (John Mahoney - before "Frasier" made him famous). I'll sometimes catch it when I'm channel surfing and am always sucked back into its many charms.

I assume that just about everyone has seen this movie - but if you haven't - DO SEE IT (or see it again). Hilarious. Marissa Tomei deservedly won an Oscar, but I also have a very soft spot in my heart for the performance of Fred Gwynne (of "Musters" fame) as the judge.

A little indie film that first brought attention to Ashley Judd. A slice-of-life film that rings true in every detail.

A beautiful story of friendship, growing up, accepting loss, and only incidentally about baseball. Don't wait for the "big game" climax - it never comes. One of the things I like best is that the most talented kid is also the nicest. That does happen sometimes in real life, you know.

A smart new kid takes on the school bully with the help of the troubled "crazy kid" that everyone's afraid of. A first-rate "feel good" story; superb performances. Look for Matt Dillon and Joan Cusack.
According to Kate's sister (a former high school assistant principal), every single moment in this movie is credible - EXCEPT that there's toilet paper in the boys' bathroom.

From a novel by Nick Hornby (author of "About a Boy" and others). The story is moved to Chicago and concerns a record store owner (Cusack) who might love his record collection more than any woman in his life. Cusack at his most appealing. Wonderful supporting cast, including Jack Black.

Delightful family comedy from Taiwan. Made by Ang Lee, later famous for "Brokeback Mountain."
About a widower - a master chef who's losing his sense of smell - and his complex relationships with his three daughters. There's a surprise "twist" at the end that was the cherry on the top for this charmer. Don't watch on an empty stomach!
