My Top Ten Best Recordings of All TIme
By an Amazon.com customer
Sky Blue SkySky Blue Sky by Wilco
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $5.49
Sky Blue Sky exhibited a level of growth or maturity I didn't expect from this band. They raised the bar with this release.
Led Zeppelin 1Led Zeppelin 1 by Led Zeppelin
Buy new: $12.99 / Used from: $1.39
I was mesmerized with this recording when it was released in 1969 and I'm just as mesmerized by it today. Truly a classic. It could have been recorded yesterday. Timeless.
From the CradleFrom the Cradle by Eric Clapton
Buy new: $12.99 / Used from: $0.34
I believe Eric Clapton to be one of the best, if not the best guitarist in the world, in a very tight race with a select few. This is one of the finest blues recordings ever. Powerful. I would put this record in the same category as anything by B.B. King and I believe B.B. would too.
Everybody Knows This Is NowhereEverybody Knows This Is Nowhere by Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $2.39
Another one of those timeless gems I never get tired of listening too.A great compilation of songs. An almost perfect recording.
Car Wheels on a Gravel RoadCar Wheels on a Gravel Road by Lucinda Williams
Buy new: $11.99 / Used from: $1.98
Lucinda Williams is a great song writer and performer. The only negative about this record is that she has been unable to match it since it's release. Don't get me wrong, her later recordings have been great but the bar was set extremely high with Car Wheels On A Gravel Road.
Viva TerlinguaViva Terlingua by Jerry Jeff Walker
Buy new: $8.99 / Used from: $4.26
Great music in its simplest form. Another record I've been listening to for 35 years and have not tired of. You can tell a lot of love went into this record.
On StageOn Stage by Loggins & Messina
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $9.88
I don't usually enjoy live recordings as much as others may enjoy live recordings, but this record is amongst the best. It doesn't get much better than the jam they get into on Angry Eyes. They were pros back then. Then Kenny Loggins had to go and sell his soul.
Alive & Pickin'/Louisiana ManAlive & Pickin'/Louisiana Man by Doug Kershaw
Buy new: $19.98 / Used from: $8.00
I selected this one but really, only one of these belong on my list, and that would be Alive and Pickin'. Absolutely one of the most energetic live recordings of all time.On one song Doug promises, "I'm gonna wear these musician's butts out!", and I believe he did.
Live from Deep in the Heart of TexasLive from Deep in the Heart of Texas by Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $4.40
I know, I know! I said I don't really care to much for live recordings then put 3 on this list. But this one is great. Part of what made it great was the crowd. They were really into it. In fact, I heard that the crowd noise on this record has been used on other live recordings.
Ga Ga Ga Ga GaGa Ga Ga Ga Ga by Spoon
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $7.70
I truly love this band and just about everything they have ever recorded. I listed Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga simply because it was their newest. You can't go wrong with this band though. They are consistent in their recordings and I never get tired of listening to them. I love Gimme Fiction, Telephono, and Soft Effects as much as I did this selection.
