A Shot in the DarkA Shot in the Dark
Buy new: $12.49 / Used from: $4.87
4/5 - Peter Sellers is hilarious as the buffoonish Inspector Clouseau. I laughed out loud several times. Without Sellers, it's a 3/5, but because Sellers is so brilliant, I bumped it up a point.
Slacker - Criterion CollectionSlacker - Criterion Collection
Buy new: $31.49 / Used from: $24.98
4.5/5 - I saw this movie to prepare myself for Waking Life. Therefore, I didn't really have much expectation for the movie. I ended up loving it. I especially loved the old anarchist.
Grindhouse Presents, Death Proof - Extended and Unrated (Two-Disc Special Edition)Grindhouse Presents, Death Proof - Extended and Unrated (Two-Disc Special Edition)
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $2.49
4/5 - Quentin Tarantino is one of my favorite filmmakers. I was fairly uninterested in seeing this in the theater mainly because I had no interest in Planet Terror. I'm glad I waited because the DVD adds about 20 minutes of footage to the movie. Vanessa Ferlito is ridiculously sexy in this film.

3.5/5 - This movie is flawed but the flaws don't really detract from the overall enjoyment of the film. The acting isn't always believable and it plods at times. Still worth seeing.
Waking LifeWaking Life
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $3.95
5/5 - I loved this movie. It's structured similarly to Slacker but it's animated and explores more existential themes. Anyone who wants to be challenged by a movie will really enjoy this.
Synecdoche New YorkSynecdoche New York
Buy new: $20.99 / Used from: $3.10
5/5 - Charlie Kaufman is my favorite player in film right now. I will see anything that he is attached to. Hopefully he will direct all his scripts from now on. This is his most thought-provoking movie. I need to see it about 50 more times because I felt like I only scratched the surface after my first viewing. This is a must-buy.
Mulholland DriveMulholland Drive
Buy new: $12.49 / Used from: $3.70
5/5 - I absolutely loved this movie. It's so thought-provoking and mandates multiple viewings, much like Synecdoche, New York. I was discussing the movie with the person I saw it with for days afterwards. See this movie!
Battle Royale: Director's Cut (Collector's Edition)Battle Royale: Director's Cut (Collector's Edition)
Buy new: $15.99 / Used from: $6.82
3/5 - I was expecting to like this movie a lot more than I did. Great premise for a movie, but it didn't really blow me away. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't anything more than pretty good.
Apocalypse Now - The Complete Dossier (Two-Disc Special Collector's Edition)Apocalypse Now - The Complete Dossier (Two-Disc Special Collector's Edition)
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $10.53
5/5 - This film is a masterpiece. I've seen bits and pieces of it in the past but I have no recollection of seeing the whole film before. I don't think a film like this can ever be made again. It's a brilliant director making a totally uncompromising big-budget art movie. It's a surreal journey into the depths of human primitiveness, cruelty and madness.
Sullivan's Travels - Criterion CollectionSullivan's Travels - Criterion Collection
Buy new: $27.99 / Used from: $17.53
4.5/5 - I've been trying to see this movie for months and I was not disappointed by it. The script is intelligent, the acting was excellent, and the ending was satisfying. Highly recommended.
Miller's CrossingMiller's Crossing
Buy new: $9.98 / Used from: $2.05
5/5 - It's hard to be objective about the Coen Brothers. I love all their stuff. This is the Coen Brothers take on gangster movies. The story, script, and acting are top-notch.
Barton FinkBarton Fink
Buy new: $9.98 / Used from: $3.70
5/5 - John Turturro and John Goodman are fantastic. This is the Coen Brothers most surreal film. I'm glad I saw it around the same time as Miller's Crossing because these two films feel very connected. Like some of the previously mentioned films, it demands repeat viewings and is absolutely worth buying.
The Third Man - Criterion Collection (2-Disc Edition)The Third Man - Criterion Collection (2-Disc Edition)

5/5 - I don't normally go for Westerns but how can you resist Paul Newman and Robert Redford. This movie is iconic for a reason.
Ikiru - Criterion CollectionIkiru - Criterion Collection

Buy new: $8.66 / Used from: $3.99
4.5/5 - I've never really been a huge Clint Eastwood fan but I really liked this movie. It made me think about the nature of death, revenge, and identity. Gene Hackman is amazing as usual.
