I recommend. Be aware there are a few instances of bad language. I usually anything by Enger, but not this one. I'll just never be a fan of the Hamlet story, I guess (though the original has some great lines).

I prevaricate. Again. This book has too much foul language and sexual overtones (though it doesn't go into gruesome detail). But the story gripped me and wouldn't let go until the end.

I recommend. If I were feeling ambitious, I'd read "The Scarlet Letter" again and compare/contrast it with this book. It's much heavier than other Gaskell books I've read, and took me longer to read. But I liked it in the end. I'm so glad the folks in the book got around to thinking Ruth shouldn't be condemned forever because of her mistake.

I recommend. Not great literature. Not shy about religion. Watch out for the corniness. But it's a sweet story.

I prevaricate. I'm a fan of the Inspector Lynley PBS series. So, I'm reading the books now. This book is far more complicated than the TV version. I liked it because I like the stars of all the books - Lynley, Havers, Helen, St James, Deborah... I hesitate to recommend it because of several instances of foul language and sex scenes that go a bit beyond what I'm comfortable with.

I recommend. This series truly lives up to its categorization as "cozy". A lovely way to spend an afternoon or evening.

I recommend. I continue to enjoy this series.

I don't recommend. The story caught my interest quickly, but I stopped reading it about 25 pages into it. There was just enough foul language and talk about sex to make me feel uncomfortable.

I recommend. There are a few instances of foul language. Sex outside of marriage is not promoted or detailed, but occurs. I can't put my finger on exactly why I like this book, but I do... Maybe the short story form is growing on me.

I recommend. Note that the story takes place in some alternate time/world/universe with its unique "gods" and forms of worship. If that bothers you, don't read this. That doesn't bother me and I enjoyed the (very clean) story.

I recommend! It *does* lean towards the dark side, for those whom that may trouble. But it's a great story and well told.

I don't recommend... Though, I admit I enjoyed reading it. Bad language is minimal. No lurid sex scenes. The problem is that sex outside of marriage is accepted. There is also some discussion of abortion being a right, and rightly so. It's interesting that giving a child up for adoption is never explored though the Mother acknowledges her inadequate financial state.

I recommend. I didn't find anything offensive in it. The story was fine. The tie-ins to the "The Sisterhood" felt forced and seemed plain silly to me.

I recommend! An excellent *and* clean (without being obvious or smug about it) read!

I recommend. Be aware that it deals with some tough stuff - suicide, adultry, and more. But that's not the focus of the book and there's not one instance of foul language or a "sex scene". It's slow moving. It moved me deeply.

I recommend. I can't say much about one aspect of this book that some may find shocking and disturbing without spoiling the story. This particular element didn't spoil the book for me. A very enjoyable read.

I recommend. Another nice piece of historical fiction. Don't read it if you have issues with ghost stories.

I recommend. I was quickly enveloped by the story and the characters. There are very few references to sex and no "sex scenes". A very fun read!
