Very good modern literature book that almost reads like a modern Jane Austen. Not to mention, the story is captivating and heart-breaking.

This takes place between Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. A good book that fits in nicely with the movies and helps explain how they get from Point A to Point B.

A very good modern, fantasy/political novel. The sequel isn't quite as good, but it is worth it for the continuation of the story.

Another series you could try out. Meant for teenagers, it is a composite of all mythological/legendary figures that are contained within one parallel world. I think I liked it so much because it combined all of my favorite myths and legends.

This book is very short, and could be read in one sitting. My favorite teacher of all time gave this to me as a Christmas gift in 8th grade. It is a strange book, but worth at least one read through. I'd like to talk with you about this book if you ever get the chance to read it. I think it is supposed to be a lot more in depth than I first thought upon my first reading.

I was really into the Black Stallion series around 4th and 5th grade, so these are definitely children's books. But they are fun, and are reminiscent of Marguerite Henry. There is a slew of them, and I'm not really sure what the proper chronological order is. But if you want to try them out, best to start with the first one.

I really enjoyed this book when I was younger. It has a lot to do with animals ... and two telepathic twins. :-) I just found out by typing it into amazon that this book is part of a series of books about the "Starbuck Twins". I've only read this book, but I really enjoyed it.

This set of books got started because of the video game Myst and its sequels. The books provide more intricate detail about the worlds and culture you "see" in the games. This is the first book chronologically but it is the second book in the series. The series itself stands alone just fine, but you get even more story if you play the games ... ;-)

If you didn't read this in high school, read it soon and we can talk about it. There is a lot to be learned from this book in the discussion of the symbolism and themes. It is very good ... and frustrating. ;-)

Talk about a book that should be thoroughly discussed. By the way, this is Tyler's favorite book from High School. Why is that not surprising?

My history teacher in 9th grade recommended this book to me. It is terribly graphic about the meat-packing industry in Chicago at the turn of the century. I found it interesting and disturbing at the same time. But still enjoyed it. They do focus more on the plight of the workers than the animals themselves.

This is definitely a science fiction book at the heart, but you end up spending most of the time reading about 14th century France. I really liked this book, and sadly was a bit disappointed by the movie.
