It's a page turner. Sort of historical fiction. I found the story to be compelling.

Buy new: $17.96 / Used from: $0.01 I recommend. Fun read. Treats prostitution (Rumpole defends a would-be prostitute's client accused of murder) but doesn't dwell on unseemly matters. There's one other item that might bug some people, but I don't know how to put it in words and it didn't offend me, so consider yourself warned. The bottom line is that Rumpole doesn't seem to take anything seriously.

Buy new: $10.20 / Used from: $1.38 Your call. I remember 2 or 3 instances of foul language. The sex scenes aren't super detailed and long, but sometimes they felt too intimate. Also be warned that the "mystery" gets in to some heavyweight evil stuff.
On another note, if you're looking to build your vocabulary, this author uses lots of words I don't know...
