The first man from space movie is also the best man from space movie! This one has got so much to recommend it that I don't know where to start: great cast, snappy dialogue, tense where it intends to be, nice commaradarie among the players, and James Arness' film debut!

The John Carpenter remake of The Thing: this is my all-time FAVORITE horror flick! Carpenter wisely steered away from doing a remake of the first film and mined the original novella for his story. It is not for the faint of heart! A dynamic adventure film with eye-popping (literally) effects that still look good 25 years later.

I thought John Carpenter had a great idea expanding the franchise to cover a different horror theme with a new Halloween film released every year; unfortunately, Michael Myers fans didn't agree with me. Hey, if this is considered a "guilty pleasure"... well, then I'm guilty! It's a favorite of mine!

The Evil Dead is one of the all-time scariest/goriest films I've ever seen. The Evil Dead 2 doesn't have a lot to recommend it. Army of Darkness takes a different tact and it works! It's funny, scary, dopey, and laugh out loud good entertainment! Don't bother with the Official Bootleg Edition: the original "S-Mart" ending is better!
