Magnificent Blues with jazz influences on many tracks of his catalog. Very smooth and clean. Technically one of the finest guitarists around. Check out the superb "Blues for Otis Rush." Also be sure to look for "Baby Doll Blues" as well as the stunning "Blues in D-Natural" on the live CD w/Jimmy Rogers which deserves its position on the list of top 100 greatest blues instrumentals.

Raise your hand if you know who Peter Green is. Another Great forgotten or overlooked guitarist. Ex-John Mayall Bluesbreaker along with Eric C & Mick Taylor. Checkout "Jumping at Shadows", "Love that Burns", "A Fool No More," and "If You Let Me Love You." Dark & haunting Blues. Very moving.

This Cd contains the historic version of "It's My Own Fault" which introduces then-unknown Johnny Winter - an incredible sweltering 11 minute ride. Michael was one of the great Chicago Bluesmen who showed huge potential in his PBBB & Super Session days. Also check out Mike's live work at the Fillmore West in '69 which is included on Nick Gravenites' 'My Labors' Cd.

Great Irish guitarist who got me into Blues when I saw him live >25 years ago. The man in faded flannel and an old beat-up Strat could play! Great passion & energy. Checkout "What in the World", "Garbage Man," and "Roberta.

Although he's not British, Otis won UK Best Blues Guitarist award. This is a solid 2 disc compilation with a broad range of blues styles. Check out the smoldering "Perfume and Grime","SRV (My Mood Too), and "When my Heart Beat Like a Hammer."

Luther is another excellent Chicago Bluesman who is somewhat similar to Buddy Guy with raw, gritty, and frenzied solos. Checkout his outstanding live versions of 'Gambler's Blues' and 'Little Red Rooster.' Be sure to look for his live Cd in Chicago as these two Cd's encompass most of his best work. Also look for the impassioned "Let's have a little Talk" on Luther's Blues.

Very hot yet very unknown guitarist. Checkout 'Blues for J', 'Blues for the Lost and Found,' and 'Raging River.

Amazing prodigy who recorded this at the ripe old age of 16. As expected the vocals lack maturity, but they're not bad all things considered. Check out the 10 minute "Radio Blues." Nice version of "Little Wing" and the Santana-ish "Espirita." It will be interesting to see how he progresses - future Joe Bonamassa or a Blues purist like some of his influences (Otis Rush & Freddie King).

Chicago Bluesman Dave's all-instrumental disc that's a blend of Blues & Jazz. His other releases include excellent vocalists Bill Smith, Lenny Lynn, Tad Robinson, and Lynwood Slim. Ronnie Earl is on Dave's first release.

Solid collection of most of Roy's best work including a scintillating version of "Hey Joe." Like M. Bloomfield (and many others), Roy won't be remembered for his vocals, but he was stunningly great on what mattered most - the guitar. Like Bloomfield, he was yet another Blues guitarist whose life came to a tragic end.

Jimmy's all-instrumental Cd. Check out "Blues fore Dawn," & "Edward's Blues" Also look for "Lickin' Gravy" on Empty Arms Motel.

This guy should be a contender for the UK Best Blues Guitarist award. If you can find their import Live cd, the guitarwork definitely smokes (although the vocals don't).

Eric Gales' brother Manuel who changed his name in honor of his mentor - the great Albert King. Both shared many obvious similarities, but he sadly died young at 37. Check out the 11+ minute "Drowning on Dry Land." Also be sure to look for the fiery "Upside Down & Backwards" on Something Inside Me' plus the title track.

Checkout "Slow Blues in C" and "the Bluest Blues" which provides 15 minutes of sublime slow Blues.

It's hard to believe that Kenny's Cd's are unavailable new through Amazon, but you can get them via his website at http://home.earthlink.net/~blueray/index.htm. He's a superb guitarist and a nice guy. Look for his 'Way Down in Memphis' & 'Best of Blue' Cd's including the following superb tracks: Pull the Strings, Blues Juice, Blue, for Jannie Ray, many others.

Clearly influenced by legend SRV, but not like some of the others who lack originality. Checkout the torrid 13 minute "Something Wicked." Also be sure to look for "Shiloh" on Texas Sugar/Strat Majik.

Seven-time WC Handy Award winner. Good blending of Texas & Mississippi styles

Checkout "Lonely Bed" which is a poignant slow burner. Also checkout the splendid "Barrel House Blues" on From the Heart which packs a big wallop.

Definitely fits the definition of "smokin' hot" and was clearly influenced by Jimi/Stevie Ray/Robin Trower. The vocals aren't great, and he's not a traditionalist in any sense of the word, but man can this guy cook. Check out "Strings Talkin" & "Message to Collins." Also look for "Original Sin." Very over-the-top.
