One of my favorite movies of all-time. Best watched when you're at home sick in bed all day, as it is about 7 hours long. A modern-day mishmash of all the classic fairy tales, brought together with a totally new storyline, some beautiful special effects, humor, and characters you'll absolutely fall in love with.

This is just good stuff. These aren't fairy tales you're used to. These are old folk tales from around the world, done completely in narration with all visuals taped on-location. I love to put these on when I'm going to bed... they work great as bedtime stories!

Another modern-day tale, this is a Romeo-and-Juliet story of forbidden love between a leprechaun and a fairy, and the war that ensues between the two peoples as a result. Parallelling the leprechaun-fairy love story is the love story between the two humans the fairies and leprechauns have enlisted to help them solve their problems. Whoopi Goldberg is fabulous as the Grand Banshee.

Another one to watch again and again. Incorporates elements of various mythologies while telling a completely new story. Beautifully done.

Another one of my childhood favorites, this animated film centers around the choice between maintaining the world of magic in which the story takes place or allowing scientific progress (and its accompanying pollution of the spirit of the Earth).

A great Disney classic combining live-action characters with superimposed animation, this is a great flashback to the simplicity of pre-computer-animated fantasy movies.

Classic 80s happiness on film, although extremely liberal "adaptation" of the book creates an almost unrecognizable story. Watch it, then read the book. You'll love both.

This one isn't too well-known (I picked it up from a 99-cent DVD rack at Borders), but the story is actually a lot of fun -- an amnesiac fairy is stuck in human form and can't return to her world without aid. She must figure out how to regain her powers before time runs out and she is basically exterminated.
