My 'dark' gay movie and/or mystery/thriller collection (List #2)

UrbaniaUrbania
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $3.38
Urbania is a gay themed film without clichés; it has no sentimental feel good story and makes no excuses. It is a thought provoking, challenging and somewhat difficult film. It opens the door to the dark sides of human nature, or of being gay, while being gay is not the center of the story. A great film!
Ordinary SinnerOrdinary Sinner
Buy new: $22.49 / Used from: $4.03
This movie is not for everyone. It is a quite film that shows how easy things can get out of hand. The film is somewhat dragging without a consistent flow, and although it has a good story line - it is not very well presented. So overall it is a gay themed film and we should applaud the effort it took to make it, if nothing else.
TwistTwist
Buy new: $24.99 / Used from: $5.65
I think this is one of the unseen movies starring Nick Stahl. Nick plays a smart and emotionally unavailable street kid, exploited, hopeless and hung up in the industry of sex and drugs. It is a dark film and young Nick Stahl delivers a great performance.
The Dying GaulThe Dying Gaul
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $1.08
I interpret this story as one of catastrophic psychological manipulation, one that is unexpected, but at times a little too farfetched. The film could be about success and a good life, but instead it is about betrayal, lies, adultery, taking things for granted, loss, pain and turmoil. Nevertheless it is a good movie.
Gods and MonstersGods and Monsters
Buy new: $11.99 / Used from: $4.07
Gods and monsters reflect on the often uneasy friendship between a young straight ex-marine, and an aging homosexual film director and artist. The film entails mysteries, speculations and interpretations of what might or really could have happened. Reality and fiction seem to merge, and will leave you at times unsettled.
Poster BoyPoster Boy
Buy new: $17.99 / Used from: $5.52
Poster Boy is a good movie about upper middle class student Henry, his southern right-wing senator father, his liberal mother, and his open secret about his sexuality and family ties. After feelings develop between him and a liberal political activist he outs himself, and deals with its consequences.
Come UndoneCome Undone
Buy new: $26.99 / Used from: $13.49
This film is not the best gay movie out there, but worth giving a chance. Mathieu meets Cedric over the summer. Both have different live experiences, wants, needs and the abilities to express them. A relationship is almost impossible due to their differences. The movie is sad and without a clear ending, but rather one that leaves room for imagination.
PriestPriest
Buy new: $9.49 / Used from: $3.00
This movie - heavily attacked by the Catholic Church, plays in Ireland. A homosexual priest falls in love, but his job duties and his personal convictions are so strong that his conscience wins. A very sad, emotional and realistic film – that is definitely worth watching.
TestosteroneTestosterone
Buy new: $22.49 / Used from: $8.50
Testosterone is a dark story about vengeful, compulsive, sexually charged Dean traveling to Spain to find Paolo, the lover that left him. Dean is not interested in anything but getting what he wants, therefore Paolo is wrong no matter what, and he has to pay. This is the story about a self absorbed American traveling to a country he has no clue about to bring Paolo back with him – no matter how!
CircuitCircuit
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $4.89
Circuit has the ability to make you care about the characters in the movie and leaves one hoping to find out that everything will end well. It portraits hustlers, circuit boys and queens, management that only cares about money, the new guy from out of town, dreamers, human wrecks, wannabes and plenty of modern drugs. But it also includes wake-up calls and true friends. A good movie!
Mysterious Skin (Deluxe Unrated Director's Edition)Mysterious Skin (Deluxe Unrated Director's Edition)
Buy new: $20.99 / Used from: $12.95
This film is not really dark it just has the dark memory of the two leads of being sexually abused by the same man, and not having the strength to deal with it properly. The movie gives insight into two opposite feelings about being a victim; it is honest and matter of fact without explanation. The story is raw and graphic, but without judgment and pity. It is a typical and good Araki film!
Vanilla/A Little ComfortVanilla/A Little Comfort
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $7.82
"Jeff, an aspiring San Francisco photographer discovers the body of the Bay Side Strangler laying by the river one morning. He is inspired to create an art project based on the killer and his victims, but as he begins his project, the ghosts of the victims begin to appear to him."
Amnesia: The James Brighton EnigmaAmnesia: The James Brighton Enigma
Buy new: $14.49 / Used from: $6.48
Amnesia is an intriguing and thought-provicing film – not without flaws - about true events. Due to a trauma and appearently due to the previous problems in his life, a young man turned up in Quebec and does not remember who he is. Then one day he does remember, but it turns out he is not who he believed to be. This film is somewhat sad and dark due to circumstances and writing of the story.
When Boys FlyWhen Boys Fly
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $8.99
Not so much a dark movie, but rather a 'dark' subject. The film portraits the shallow reality of circuit parties, drugs, one-night stands, trying to feel good at what ever cost. A reality that is very much part of our community.
My Own Private Idaho - Criterion CollectionMy Own Private Idaho - Criterion Collection
Buy new: $25.99 / Used from: $18.50
Gay actor playing ... what? However, this is a geat film, and only 'dark' because of it's bleak reality in the scenes and story line. A film with a great story line and many covered-up truths.
