My favorite Wong Kar Wai film. Humor and high energy applied to a melancholy tale. Faye Wong is irresistible. The Criterion DVD has better picture quality than this one and leaves the music track alone, allowing Faye Wong to dance to her own recording (a cover of "Dreams.")

This is one of my favorite fantasy films. They don't make them like this in Hollywood.

Remake of a Bruce Lee film. Some of the finest martial arts action every put on film. Jet Li.

Stephen Chow is the God of action-comedy. His Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle are even better, perhaps. Not bad title.

This good-girl, bad-boy romance tale is not original. But it works like a charm. It has one of my favorite downbeat endings. Andy Lau and Wu Chien-lien star

Maggie Cheung, who's in a couple of other movies on this list, and Leon Lai star in this very good romantic film. I loved the strange ending. Late in the film there's a scene shot in on of the World Trade Center towers.

I really liked this one. A spooky tale staring the late, great Leslie Cheung in his last film. Even spookier is how the ending parallels his own suicide.

Another superior Category III (graphic sex & violence) film. Great action, beautiful women, and cyborgs (who are often beautiful women.)

Great action series staring the fabulous Cynthia Khan, who replaced Michelle Yeoh early in the series.

Michelle Yeoh was flying and swishing a sword years before Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Someone wields a toppled stone pillar as a weapon in this one. Just plain fun.

From highly regarded director Johnny To. Relatively sedate. The tableau-style shootout is very cool.

One of a couple of Hong Kong action movies Gong Li appeared in. Some people hate it. Not me. Set in a fantastic world that bares little or no resemblance to the real Earth.

Faye Wong and Leslie Cheung in a lighthearted tale of love and robbery in the sun.

Quirky story of a young guy who hires a young gal to perform the hit he was hired to do.

Classy flying swordsman film. Andy Lau rides a dolphin.

Here is probably the nastiest Category III film I've seen. You really care about the heroine, though.

Amazing action scenes. Too bad the story is dull.

A disappointing climax, rare in Hong Kong action films, but otherwise fine.

The first half, an unusual ghost story, is better than the more action oriented second half.

Better than the second one. Haven't seen the third. I liked the fight near the end with the gals in colorful outfits shooting colorful energy bolts from their hands.
