![]() | Above the Law
Buy new: $5.79 / Used from: $0.88 This is the one that started it all. Seagal stars as Nico Costani, former CIA agent who battles against corrupt elements within the agency. It doesn't have the greatest action sequences but it allows his personality and charisma to come through.

![]() | Hard to Kill
Buy new: $5.79 / Used from: $2.00 This is the most fun of all his early movies. It has some great humor, awesome fight sequences, and great moments of Seagalian spirtual enlightenment. It also features the classic line "I'll take you to the bank . . . the blood bank!" Total classic!
|
![]() | Out for Justice
Buy new: $5.79 / Used from: $1.74 If you have never seen a Steven Seagal movie this is the one you should start with! It has the absolute best fight sequences of any of his movies. William Forsythe is awesome the villain, his coked-out brother Ritchie. Seagal also uses an over-the-top Italian accent that is just priceless.
|
![]() | Marked for Death
Buy used from: $4.80 This one is probably my third favorite of his early movies. They don't make 'em like this anymore. Would a modern action film show someone mindlessly shooting a side of beef to demonstrate a weapon? I think not.

![]() | Urban Justice
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $3.07 This is Seagal's best movie since his first Out for Justice. He moves into a gang infested neighborhood in L.A. to avenge the death of his son. The fight scenes are great and he has some classic one-liners. Forget what you think you know about Seagal DTV movies because this one is awesome. Special props to Eddie Griffin as the almost-villain.
|
![]() | Pistol Whipped
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $1.77 After Urban Justice this is Seagal's best DTV movie. Like Urban Justice, it features his actual voice for the entire movie! He is a degenerate gambler whose debts are paid off by Lance Henriksen who, in turn, holds them over his head to make Seagal work as a hitman for him. The final shoot-out in a cemetary is really cool and has a great betrayal one-liner at the very end.
|
![]() | Belly of the Beast
Buy new: $9.95 / Used from: $1.22 If you like the whole Seagal/Asian vibe then this is the perfect movie for you! This time he's an ex-CIA agent whose daughter gets kidnapped. When he goes to rescue her he must square off with the currupt chief of police who is using some sort of voodoo power to stop Seagal. You wanna guess who comes out on top?
|
![]() | Into the Sun
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $1.98 More great Seagal/Asian connection action for you. This time he's in Japan dealing with the Yakuza. The fights aren;t the best of his career but they are much better than many of his DTV efforts.
|
![]() | The Foreigner
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $1.79 This is the first of the Jonathan Cold films. The plot is pretty loose and hard to follow but I love it's eastern European vibe and sexy blonde vixen intrigue. It features the most abrupt ending of any Seagal film. Watch this only after viewing the classics! This one is for seasoned fans.
|
![]() | Black Dawn
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $1.99 This is the second Jonathan Cold movie. This one is in America so it loses a lot of the cool (or should I say Cold?) factor The Foreigner had by being shot in Romania. The ending is so bizarre you have to see it to believe it.

![]() | Seagalogy: A Study of the Ass-Kicking Films of Steven Seagal by Vern
Buy new: $10.17 / Used from: $4.90 This is Vern's hilarious and insightful book that covers all of Seagal's movies from Above the Law to Pistol Whipped. It is a must read for any Seagal fan or any movie fan period.
