GLJ before the lineup changes, squabbling, schizm, and subsequent legal wrangling caused irreparable damage to group's sound
Stop The WorldStop The World by Ghost Dance

Former Skeletal Family vocalist's post-Family outfit -- long oop and hard to find
PsychocandyPsychocandy by The Jesus and Mary Chain
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $9.41
Gloomy 80s post-punk/proto-shoegazery mired under layers of distortion -- a favorite with goths in the 80s

Killing JokeKilling Joke by Killing Joke
Buy new: $9.93 / Used from: $6.98
Though not goth (along with P.I.L., they were considered an early influence in the scene), they're nonetheless titans in the punk/goth/industrial/metal/alternative/what have you scenes, having influenced everyone from Metallica, to Ministry, to Godflesh, Nirvana, etc. Though not quite as groundbreaking a record as What's THIS For..!, it's still an important album.
What's THIS For...!What's THIS For...! by Killing Joke
Buy used from: $6.66
KJ's masterpiece
RevelationsRevelations by Killing Joke
Buy used from: $6.27
Though not as highly regarded as WTF, there's not a bad song on it
Fire DancesFire Dances by Killing Joke
Buy new: $12.98 / Used from: $6.20
Their most underrated album -- why it isn't represented on Laugh?, I don't know
Night TimeNight Time by Killing Joke
Buy new: $9.93 / Used from: $7.41
KJ verging on the goth/post-punk sound -- "Darkness Before Dawn" and "Love Like Blood" are exceptional...and, of course, it has "Eighties" on it...
Laugh? I Nearly Bought One!Laugh? I Nearly Bought One! by Killing Joke
Buy used from: $4.44
A nice overview of their 80s work, with a few rarities ("Turn to Red", "Sun Goes Down"). However, it's missing some essentials like "The Wait" and "The Fall of Because".
The Vision and the VoiceThe Vision and the Voice by Kommunity Fk
Buy used from: $8.92
Highly regarded LA goth/deathrock outfit -- pricey, but worth tracking down
Close One Sad EyeClose One Sad Eye by Kommunity FK

It has "Something Inside Me Has Died" on it. 'Nuff said.
The Lords of the New ChurchThe Lords of the New Church by The Lords of the New Church

Stiv Bators' post-Dead Boys goth outfit. If you only get one album by them, make it this one.
Is Nothing Sacred? Is Nothing Sacred? by Lords of the New Church
Buy used from: $99.87
The followup -- almost as good as the first, just a bit more erratic
The Method to Our MadnessThe Method to Our Madness by Lords of the New Church

The final album -- more of a glam/rock influence on display
Seventh Dream of Teenage HeavenSeventh Dream of Teenage Heaven by Love and Rockets
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $4.65
3/4 of Bauhaus (or, rather, Bauhaus sans Murphy) -- the direction Bauhaus might have headed in had they not split when they did
ExpressExpress by Love and Rockets
Buy new: $11.98 / Used from: $7.94
The last L&R record I acknowledge -- after this, they'd venture into 80s pop
The Botanic VersesThe Botanic Verses by March Violets
Buy new: $18.98 / Used from: $6.64
Former Merciful Release act -- Snake Dance" is a goth club staple. Plus, they get points for the compilation's title
Early RecordingsEarly Recordings by Mephisto Waltz
Buy used from: $4.85
Features a one-time, lesser known member of Rozz-era Christian Death -- not bad though. They later switched to a female vocalist and changed their sound
The Misfits Box SetThe Misfits Box Set by Misfits

C'mon, you know this one...

The First ChapterThe First Chapter by The Mission UK
Buy new: $10.98 / Used from: $6.16
Their equivalent to SOM's Some Girls Wander by Mistake -- "Over the Hills and Far Away" is one of my all-time favorite goth songs
Vengeance: The Independent StoryVengeance: The Independent Story by New Model Army
Buy used from: $4.96
Not really sure how to do them justice with a description -- they aren't goth, though once in a blue moon someone will describe them as such. Doesn't matter. BUY THE ALBUM!
No Rest for the WickedNo Rest for the Wicked by New Model Army
Buy used from: $7.47
Just as strong as their debut
The Ghost of CainThe Ghost of Cain by New Model Army
Buy new: $12.98 / Used from: $5.88
Pretty intense stuff -- It's a solid effort from start to finish. But even if it weren't, it'd still be worth it for "Hunt" and "Lights Go Out"
Tender PreyTender Prey by Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds
Buy used from: $9.99
I'm not as big a fan of Cave's solo work as I am of The Birthday Party. It has a tendency to all sound the same to me. Nevertheless, this was their high watermark until Dig, Lazarus, Dig!

Their first LP -- get the expanded version with the early singles included
From the Promised LandFrom the Promised Land by Play Dead

The final album -- good stuff
The Very Best of Red Lorry Yellow LorryThe Very Best of Red Lorry Yellow Lorry by Red Lorry Yellow Lorry
Buy new: $18.98 / Used from: $11.49
An essential band in the scene, but be warned -- most of the CD incarnations of early RLYL material have been mastered from vinyl, with some extremely shoddy results
