Long Day's Journey Into Night (Aniv) [VHS]Long Day's Journey Into Night (Aniv) [VHS]

I had to use the pic from this 1961 Kate Hepburn version to rep the rare VHS(but I have one) 1996 Canadian film of this Eugene O'Neill classic, far superior to any other version including Hepburn's. I've seen all recorded productions of one of my fave plays. Well-acted, especially William Hutt of our Stratford Shakespearian Festival.
The RowdymanThe Rowdyman by Gordon Pinsent
Buy used from: $4.00
An early Canadian film(1971)gets my vote as the best ORIGINAL one. The film of this novel is hard to find on DVD but I have a copy. Stars Gordon Pinsent(lately acclaimed for 'Away From Her')who also wrote the novel.
The Silent PartnerThe Silent Partner
Buy new: $9.98 / Used from: $4.99
Top-notch thriller starring Elliot Gould.
SunshineSunshine
Buy used from: $6.18
A joint Canadian/Austrian production which follows generations of a Jewish family. Stars Ralph Fiennes and Molly Parker.
The BroodThe Brood
Buy new: $12.99 / Used from: $2.47
An early suspense/horror film by the now famed Canadian director David Cronenburg. I'm not just including this one because I have a bit part in it.(On the soap opera viewed by a mental patient).
Meatballs (Special Edition)Meatballs (Special Edition)
Buy new: $12.49 / Used from: $2.05
An early film directed by Ivan Reitman. Summer camp hijinks carried along by Bill Murray's personality.
Getting Married in Buffalo JumpGetting Married in Buffalo Jump
Buy used from: $65.99
Moderately pleasing chickflick starring Paul Gross, one of my favorite actors(Due South TV series).
John and the Missus [VHS]John and the Missus [VHS]
Buy used from: $2.25
Another strong performance by Gordon Pinsent in this touching film about closure of a mine and its effect on a small town. Pinsent also shines as recurring self-aggrandizing blowhard Hap Shaughnessy on THE RED GREEN SHOW (PBS).
The Grey FoxThe Grey Fox
Story of Canadian train robber Bill Miner. Stars Richard Farnsworth. Another pretty good movie apparently not available on video is BETWEEN FRIENDS which boasts a strong lived-in performance by Bonnie Bedelia.(Die Hard, Heart Like A Wheel).
Grey OwlGrey Owl
Buy used from: $2.48
Kind of ho-hum and perhaps overly reverential true story about a naturalist and conservationist raised by a Canadian tribe. Lots of outstanding Canadian scenery however.
Away from HerAway from Her
Buy new: $11.49 / Used from: $1.98
Haven't seen it. Couldn't bring myself to watch a drama about Alzheimers(been there, know that). Oscar nom for Julie Christie and American acclaim for Gordon Pinsent
