I was torn whether or not to put this first or last. Although terribly short, it is probably one of my favorite items on this list.

For much younger age group; excellent read-aloud.

Funny book of fractured fairy tales for both boys and girls.

If you're already tired of Spongebob, try some older children's television shows. Wishbone centers around the dog, Wishbone, and classical literature. It also incorporates lessons to go along with the stories.

An amazing new animated movie that I would call a fairy tale. Mulan chooses to save her elderly father from battle by taking his place. For both boys and girls.

I had a wonderful teacher read this book to my class, and I have never gotten the opportunity to thank her. That teacher and this story helped me to love reading.

Everyone should read this at least once. Having a kid read the book and then watch the movie might motivate them to read more.

A great ghost story.

For older groups; probably ages ten and up, for both boys and girls. Extremely entertaining story of a young boy who must venture into an underground world of giant roaches and sunless people who ride on bats. Sounds ridiculous but Suzanne Collins really pulls it off. Several other books are in the series, and the ones I've read have been just as good.
