This is beyond necessary. This series has gotten more non-readers to start reading than you would ever believe. Not to mention that it actually has some literary merit. I know of at least one college that now offers an entire semester class devoted solely to studying the Harry Potter series.

Slow at the start but usually grabs the attention of girls. You may need to be careful with this one due to the discussion of rape.

Everybody seems to love this.

Also required reading in my neck of the woods, this is another of my most favorite books of all time. There is something very haunting about this book. The imagery it creates in the minds of teenage students never seems to leave them.

Girls can go through these as quickly as gossip itself. Gossip Girl is a television series now, as well.

Again, often required but definitely enjoyed if not.

I didn't actually like this when I read it but so many people do. So, it deserves a spot on the shelf.

The movie script format that repeats in intervals throughout the novel may trip up some readers but proves to be an interesting style to read.

Probably appropriate only for the older students. Still, it's a great account of an almost normal girl's time in and out of a mental hospital. The movie was well-done, also.

Everybody should read this. And I do mean EVERYBODY.
